travel republic pricing error

booked hotel for my daughter and boyfriend three weeks ago with travel republic for next monday 14th february. Received email this afternoon saying that there was a pricing error and the hotel will be £100 more. They gave me the option to cancel or pay the extra, can they justify doing this. i have looked to rebook with another company and now the hotel prices are dearer than they were three weeks ago. I am really annoyed with travel republic they did'nt even have the decency to ring me to discuss the matter. I would like to know if they would have been so eager to contact me if they had overcharged me. Can they legally get away with this, they have issued me with the hotel voucher and confirmation of reservation. Any advice would be appreciated.

I would have thought you would have a good case. Companies can correct mistaken web prices, but I doubt a small claims court would think it reasonable to do so three weeks after the booking and just a week before departure. However, a good legal case is not necessarily going to help you to have a problem-free holiday next week. You will have to ring Travel Republic ask to speak to a manager and persuade them to honour their obligations and to put that in writing. Be polite, but if they are intrangisent ask them whether they want you to write to the press and/or take them to a small claims court. Good luck.

Read their T&C's on their site. It usually states that no contract is formed until they provide a confirmation, which they have done. However check the T&C's to make sure.
  • i received confirmation from them and they even sent me the accommodation voucher to hand into the hotel.

Two quotes from there terms of business
Where inaccuracies relate to the understatement of the price of a specific product you will be offered either a full refund of money paid on that booking only or the opportunity to maintain that booking on receipt of the additional payment which is necessary.
It is important that you understand that payment at the time you are making your booking does not in itself mean that your booking is confirmed. Your booking is only confirmed when we send you our email confirmation of booking. Because we are making live reservations with travel providers we have to have the security that we have appropriate payment from you and hence your initial payment to us is your authority to us to confirm your booking with the travel provider. If unexpectedly in the short time between your payment and us seeking to confirm your booking with the travel provider the travel product has become unavailable and we cannot obtain an alternative acceptable to you, you will of course receive a complete refund of the money you have paid for that product. You must also understand that this refund will only apply to the product which is unavailable and any other bookings will not be affected, that is, you will be committed to any other products which were booked for travel at the same time.
  • What annoys me is the fact they sent me confirmation and i assumed this was a binding contract. If there was a price error they should have noticed this before they confirmed the booking. I am awaiting their reply to my email before i decide what action to take. I wonder if they had overcharge me for the hotel would they have contacted me.

Had similar problem with Travel republic a few years ago. I booked flights, hotel and transfers with them and got confirmation on all 3 and vouchers for hotel and transfers but not flights. Eventually they said the flight price was inaccurate and I would have to pay the extra but was committed to hotel and transfers.
