Because it isn't shameful and you can't argue your so called 'shameful' case.
£15 for a lot of food is a bargain, there's no getting away from the hard facts, well done Chicago Rib Shack.
The total (in terms of quality of food, ambiance, quality of drinks, and service levels) restaurant experience is more important than just focusing on service.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

If you order a milkshake or smoothie (probably cocktails too), they ask you if you want a commemorative glass for an extra £2. It's a huge glass, then you get to keep it. They take it away, wash it and box it. I decided what the hell and got it. I thought it would be just a new glass, but it was my one, I know that because they hadn't cleaned it properly! :rotfl:0 -

I visited chicago rib shack this evening and they charged service charge on my discounted bill!! There were only 2 of us though :-)
Note that to go there and use taste you have to phone up and book before 5pm. Very good there though, and staff are v nice.0 -

oh that's great, thanks for the info! they probably read it here and changed their policy (one can hope!)?
another good place for ribs is sticky fingers on high street kensington.. but they charge a hefty 25% on the discounted bill (12.5% on the orig bill) so that really puts us off.. £5 on a £20 bill is, how do i put this, much too much, for slamming two platters down on your table0 -
Pin - Petch a great little Thai restaurant in Newngton Green Islington.
Great food and spot on service.
No service charge..:)0 -
Is there a point to this thread?
First. Service charges are not compulsory. If you don't want to pay them, don't.
Second. If a discount is applied you should still base your OPTIONAL TIP on the full price of the meal. This is simple etiquette.
In fact, if you're prepared to quibble about a few quid about having to tip against the full price why not take a calculator to the restaurant and perhaps spend a bit of time working out the VAT on the food and the VAT/duty on the drinks? After all, it's not fair to be charged a service charge on those is it?0 -
