Lost my CD/DVD Drive-Windows 7

If all else fails, could try the Microsoft Fix it utility. Worked for me when I had a similar problem (although not itunes related).0

3) Tried Esuhl but after entering 'MMC' can't see how to enter the disc management snap-in
Um... I *think* you need go to the File menu and choose "add snap-in" which opens a list, then you choose "disk management" and click "add" and select "local machine"...
Hang on... if you type "diskmgmt.msc" into the Run box, I think it will open the console with the disk management add-in already there...
(I'll try to boot into Windows later and double-check for you...)0 -
The microsoft fix it utility doesn't work as it can't recognise any cd/dvd drive to check0
-
is it visible in the bios?!!

Says windows didn't detect an optical disc drive. It might be disconnected or unplugged???0
-
Thanks but still no joy.
When I go into Device Manager there simply is no DVD/CD-Rom Drive listed0 -
(I'll try to boot into Windows later and double-check for you...)
Okay, if you hit WinKey+R, type "diskmgmt.msc" and press enter, the Disk Management console should appear. If your DVD drive is detected it will be listed as CD-ROM 0 (assuming it's the only optical drive). If the drive isn't mounted with a drive letter, right-click it, select "Change Drive Letter and Paths...", click the "Add..." button, and you can choose a letter to assign to the drive.
But if you're not seeing it in the Device Manager, Windows probably isn't detecting it at all. Can you see it in your CMOS (BIOS) settings? If not, maybe the data cable has become loose or developed a fault. (This happened to a SATA drive in one of my PCs recently).0 -
I had the exact same problem!
Called tech support (use saynoto0870.com), and told the guy what was wrong, he knew instantly itunes had been installed!
Talked me through the fix-it, and that was it!
Can't remember the exact procedure, but was similar to what BOT said.
Hope you get it fixed soon OP

I rang the tech support at Microsoft. As soon as I mentioned ITunes they told me to ring Apple as they couldn't help me. I did this and Apple wanted the serial number of my wife's ipod, which I didn't have to hand. The lady said had I tried removing and reinstalling Itunes has this might work.
As I haven't any confidence that that will work I not sure what to do. All I know is that the drive definately isn't there0
