I've had very good experience with Hoover machines (the non-brush ones).0

Miele is the Rolls Royce of washing machines IMOBe good to the young on their way up you might need them on your way down.0

Hi, I would definately NOT buy a whirlpool, we had one that lasted 4 years, with cloth nappies etc, so when that went, we bought another £290 and when it was 1 year and 6 weeks old the bearing went on it. We used to have a Zanussi, which went wrong several times, so avoided them.
Having done some research, I have bought a Bosch in John Lewis, it was £406, and has 2 years warrantee on it, but from what I have heard I should expect much more than that out of it. If we could afford it, I would have bought a Miele, but to get all the features I use on there would have been far too much money.0 -
Just to say that we bought our Miele washing machine in 1998. It needed a new door seal recently - the first repair it has had - and the repair man told us the machine has had over 16,000 hours of use and he thinks we should start thinking about replacing it when it gets to 20,000 hours. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Zanussi seems to be quite reliable. I had purchased a number of Hotpoint appliances a few years ago when I moved house, I no longer have any! All developed faults within 12 months and 'died' not long after that. Wouldn't buy hotpoint again as it seems a little strange that a washing machine, tumble dryer and fridge all had faults! None of the appliances took too much abuse so there wasn't an excuse!
Zanussi is still going strong, was a bit expensive but I did quite a bit of research and it seems to be a good reliable brand.
I'll second Zanussi. My hubby had his when we met & we put it in our house together. It just packed up two weeeks ago after 12years & has been used just about every day with kids etc. When we went to buy a new one the salesman said in conversation that to get 10 years out of a machine nowadays its good, compared to how they used to be!:eek:0 -
my suggestion is Bosch/Siemens appliances, though they are expensive but with high quality. best wishes!0

We've had the same Zanussi for over 15 years. A set of brushes went about four years ago but hubby replaced them for £20. The machine is used at least 3 or 4 times every week.
I definately believe that 'they don't make them like they used to' and we couldn't expect a new Zanussi to last the same amount of time.
Next time, if we can stretch to it, it'll be a Miele for us!Norn Iron Club Member 3300 -
I've had my Miele since we moved house to here 13 years ago. I have 3 kids and a farming husband and it still works as well now as the day I bought it. Might have been expensive at the time, around £500 I think, but has definitely paid for itself over and over again. I do at least 1-2 loads every day, frequently 3. It has a quick wash that only takes 40-45 mins and that copes with just about everything except boys white shirts and farm jeans.
If it ever dies I'll be replacing it with exactly the same again.0 -

We've an LG one, its a 9kg drum but you can up to 11kg I think which would be good for a big family like yours. The 9kg is great for just us 2, only do one clothes wash a week as can get it all in there. Had it a few years now with no problems, its quiet in comparision to our last one which is great and comes with a 10year guarentee on the motor. They are pricey though compared to normal machines but its definitely worth it in my opinion given it has a long life expectancy. Think we bought ours online from Dixons, worked out cheaper than going to the likes of Currys but worth having a look about for a good deal. Hope that helps!
I have the 11kg LG one and I love it. You can wash a big basket of washing all in one go. You can fit up to a 10.5 tog King size duvet in it as well. There are no brushes in it (my brushes in my old Hotpoints (i've had about 5!) used to go every 18 months) and it's quiet.
It has a quick wash option which takes 30 minutes. An allergy setting which gives 4 rinses instead of the normal 2 (my son has eczema). I have the steam version and you can put stuff in to get freshened up if they're not dirty - and that takes 20 minutes.0
