Sorta money saving cos I don't want to spend train fare getting to college this week(reading week) only to find books aren't there - Yes our library system is down AGAIN!!!!.)
I have an essay to do - Critically discuss how global economic trends may impact upon the future policies of the European Union(E.U.) Identify ways in which this may affect leisure and tourism trends within the E.U.
I'm fine with all the tourism stuff but I'm finding it really, really hard to do the economic trends stuff - possibly cos of the sheer bulk of material out there. i need about 20 good journals and 10 good books to start researching - well actually a couple of each with some good references in will do to start and then I can daisy chain from there.
Plus it doesn't help that I'm NOT an economist at all!!!!:rotfl: I sorta get it but trying to put it into my own words is so hard!!! I need something basic to read first so that I can get it clear in my head and not having access to the library on-line is killing my thought processes - I usually head for the reading list - reserve as many as I can and then read for a week.
Any help out there???

Trends in Economics EU wise.
Expansion of EU and Euro- should result in more tourism through easy of movement and removal of exchange costs.
Increasing standards of living> more affordable Air travel, but issues with Green Taxes, global warming.
Increased Trade with China could see expansion of travel from China to Eu.:beer:0 -
But it seems a stupid question, You can not really give trends for such a large ecomonic block as there is such varity in it.:beer:0

http://www.tutor2u.net/sub_economics.asp
Scroll down a bit, loads of articles on Europe meant for people new to economics.
Plus there is info there about all the basic Economic concepts.:beer:0 -
interest rates and property prices -
spain for example has boomed because of property price increases resulting in lots of holiday accommodation what happens if interest rates go up and or housing market crashes in any given place
Is the EU whole single currency single market a good idea anway?Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -

but the EU is one currency now. So it's all interrelated. So exchange rates move for all EU countries at the same time as it's all the Euro currency. So this could have big effects on smaller countries that are very dependent on tourism. I would guess some EU countries are more or less dependant on tourism.Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
oh and what about new countries joining the EU?Indecision is the key to flexibility0

I would start by looking at what the global economic trends generally are - and economic trends in countries that closely interact with europe.Indecision is the key to flexibility0

Thats true that exchange rates will have some effect on tourism.
But to say, European Inflation or Employment, growth and so on is still a bit meaningless as France is not like Ireland as Ireland is not like Holland in Economic trends.:beer:0 -
Thanks for those!!!!:D
I'm looking at the big picture before I go onto the Tourism part of the questions -
i.e. Global Economic trends:
what is Globalisation,
what are the global trends at the minute?
trade barriers and the effect of tariffs on the rest of the world,
outsourcing contracts etc.
Projection of trends upon policies of E.U
Working Hours directive,
Terms and Conditions - Paternity, Maternity leave, Holidays, etc
Relationship of politics, economics and tourism -Gaaaaah - This one has me a wee bit stumped for now
How will Globalisation affect leisure and tourism?
3rd world countries becoming more 2nd world and gradually becoming more post-industrial, Increased leisure time with increased pay etc
Countries with the EU becoming less attractive -more expensive for companies to place sites in - so workers witrhin having less time off and less pay therefore less leisure time.
Increase in short breaks in harder working nations
LOL - Typing it down here has actually helped immensely - sort of like being in a study group!!!Noli nothis permittere te terere
