Drying out only works if you've dropped it in plain water, a washing machine will have at the very least soap solution in it. The same thing used to work quite well on keyboards that had had coffee spilt on them. Just a little wash in plain water then a thorough dry out before use again.
OP if you still have the phone and are feeling very brave wash it in plain water, without the battery or simm card in, thoroughly dry it out in the airing cupboard then try powering on. what have you got to loose ?0
