You generally need to cancel by phone or by post (if the latter, make sure you send it RD).
If you just want a MAC, you'll need to call them so they can put you through to retentions.

Fairly easy to cancel if you follow the correct procedure .
One contract must be expired that is you are not on a twelve month contact with 6 months to run . Is your contract expired ??

Two on wishing to transfer your Internet to another provider you phone and ask for your MAC code to send to the new provider . Are you moving to a new provider .??

If you are moving to a new provider, the last thing you want to do is cancel, you must ask for a Migration Code. (MAC) if you just cancel you will be liable to a cancellation fee from BT who owns your line and have to do work at the exchange when you cancel, you will not normally be charged if you migrate to another provider unless you are going cable.
