How long do ofgem take to respond?

You can only complain to OFGEM if the company has failed to resolve a written complaint and you have also then raised the complaint with Consumer Direct and they have failed to resolve it. Until both of these things have happened OFGEM wont get involved.
Based on another post you complaint is about be chased for an old tenants debt - did you tell the supplier the day you moved in with reading and have you proved to them when you moved in i.e. provided copy of the tenancy agreement and the old tenant moved out? It is also about them not letting you change supplier - if you are in debt (outstanding amount from previous bill) or the supplier believes you are in debt (in your case the issue with the old tenant) then they are legally allowed to object to a change of supplier until such time as the matter is resolved.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I doubt that OFGEM are interested in your complaint.
They dont usually interface with end users/consumers.
They are a regulatory body and are far too busy strangling and starving our previously publicly owned utilities whilst lining their own pockets with fat fees.partying and gold plated pensions.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

its consumer direct i have complained to then, and i have complained in writing by email and phone calls.
The new account for me was set up just after i moved in, about 2 weeks, so they knew i was a new tenant.
i asked to switch within 2 weeks of moving into the address (already got final bill and paid it from my old property so i was not in debt)
BG keep saying there is no problem, and they should now let me switch energy suppliers, but all im getting is "your current supplier is refusing to let us take it" and when i ask bg why i get the same story, theres no problem, yes you should be able to switch, i intended to pay bg for the first 3 weeks or so as i moved into the new address then go to my usual supplier of EDF, 3 times now bg have refused to let EDF HAVE IT, THEY HAVE NOW SAID THEY WONT SWITCH IT UNLESS I PAY MY BILL - BUT I HAVE HAD NO BILL, DESPITE GIVING THEM METER READINGS AND THEIR GAS MAN HIMSELF TAKING A READING, AND I WAS PROMISED 3 WEEKS AGO THEY WOULD SEND ME THE BILL STRAIGHT AWAY SO I CAN SWITCH, BUT AGAIN THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED
sorry for caps lock im not deleting it all and writing it again.Owed out = lots. :cool:0
