Mobile phone insurance
I've recently put in a claim to replace my student son's Blackberry that was lost/stolen (phone policy in my name). The phone was insured with a company recommended by Martin Lewis's site (not sure if I'm allowed to give the name) and it certainly seemed a good value for money policy when I took it out. I started the claim process on Thursday 27th Jan and it has proved to be a nightmare dealing with this company. They charge 10p per minute from a landline to call them (much more from a mobile). I have already spent a ridiculous amount of time (and money) trying to speak to an advisor (normally I am advised that there are 6 or 8 people waiting in front of me) and it seems that they deliberately make people wait in order to boost their coffers probably to offset the somewhat reasonable cost of the insurance policy. Does anyone else have any experience of dealing with mobile phone insurance claims? I sent a very strongly worded email last Friday and an advisor called and left a message telling me that my son would have to have a conference call with the insurer, himself and the mobile phone provider to establish the time of the last call he'd made. This is despite having given them his closest guess in the written claim submitted and despite the phone having an automatic lock which would stop anyone using it once it had been stolen in any case. As he's at university and only has a mobile phone, can you imagine what such a call would cost when he'd have to wait up to an hour just to get through to start the conference call?!

I think you should name and shame these guys. At the very least they may have a landline number that you can use that won't cost you 10p a minute."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0
