I need a new car soon, what options do I have?

I've had my StreetKa for 8 years now and its been great but I'm starting to have problems with it resulting in unexpected big bills. Now it is no longer made by Ford certain parts are starting to get difficult to source - I've been waiting 2 weeks for a new injector and Ford reckon it could be another 2 weeks wait. I was hoping to change it soon anyway, 8 years with a 2 seater is a long time and I need something more practical.
I haven't got much in the way of savings due to getting married so couldn't buy a car outright but could afford £250 p/m max in repayments. I only do about 10000 miles a year and I'm not overly bothered about what car I have as long as its mid-sized and diesel so maybe leasing could be the answer. The thought of no unexpected repair bills also sounds very tempting.
I know nothing about leasing or getting a car on finance as I've never done either before, does anyone have any experience in either and could help me decide what to do?

Regarding your present car, the legislation was, (not sure if it still is), that the manufacturer had/s to make parts available from 10 years of the date of manufacturer.
Sorry not read the rest but you have every choice, just down to budget and requirements,
My tip?
Don't borrow money for a car, tomorrow you may still have the debt, but no car:eek:
ok, simplistic but still validI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
The parts are still available for my car but are not held in stock by Ford meaning that many will take weeks to arrive which is very annoying. I've learnt this the hard way by having no car for the last 2 weeks and still no sign of the part arriving any day soon.
I'm not keen on borrowing money for a car, that's why I'm wondering if leasing would be an option.0 -

One question to ask yourself;
Who is gonna make money out of leasing???;)
I don't think it will be you, hope you can accept that?I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

What is the likelihood of me making money buying a car?0 -
Could you try and source the parts from elsewhere? For an 8 year old car I would be a bit reluctant to go the main dealer. Euro Carparts have been good for our old Quattros and almost always have the parts in stock.
Just a thought to see your current car back on the road until you sort out a replacement0 -
only lease if your happy with handing the car back at the end of the lease period0

No, you'll not make money, but neither will the leasing company;) Why line their pockets by leasing??:)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

If you can save £250pm for a year then you have 3K.
I hope to nurse my car through another MOT in september. It looks like a pile of pooh. And MPG ain't great but it goes and I know the car. And it only has 85K on the clock and is a S reg.
Just keep nursing it until you get a really big bill. That is what I am going to do. I have the money saved so I can go and get another car if I need to. But would rather not.
All the best.

I don't see the point in keeping my car. It does 25 mpg, costs £230 in tax and even basic parts are becoming difficult to source. I keep having to take time off work to get the damn thing into the garage all the time when it breaks down and this in itself is costing me money.
I'm looking at very basic cars and my StreetKa is far higher spec and fun to drive but it is in effect a money pit. I would be happier with a bog standard 1 litre car that does 63 mpg costs £0 in tax and is under warranty.
As much as I love driving a little 2 seater drop top in the summer I'm fed up with the running costs of it and want something cheap, simple and reliable.0
