replacement safety glass panes for a 15 pane internal door?

Thanks folks.
At the moment the glass is not safety glass and 2 panes are cracked after the door blew shut. As we've got a young child I thought that if I was going to replace a couple I would be better to do them all.My MIL has been quoted £100 to have a similar door frame glazed (new but unglazed), I presume with safety glass but will need to check, so I was presuming that the glass itself could probably be bought for significantly under £100 as I guess labour must make up a reasonable amount of the total.

When/If you do place an order with a glass company ask them to only put the tuff kite mark on one pane or you will have kitemarks on every pane of glass and that looks pants.....0

and you will have to use safety glass anyway to conform with building regs.
I can believe £ 100 labour for your door as old glass has to be removed putty chiselled out etc. I reckon you are looking at £100 each for materials and labour TBH. Its the minimum charge for the toughening process that stuffs the price through the roof.
Cheers
I'm looking for the glass on a supply only basis. I'll be doing the job of removing the old and putting in the new panes.
Hence why I'm hoping that the company that is supplying and fitting for £100 can do supply only for significantly less. Will update when I get a quote.0 -

Last time I replaced some panes (9) with safety glass in a door it cost me the best part of £70 for the glass.
Cheers
All the companies I deal with the minimum size is 0.3 metres so even if you want a piece 190mm x 200mm you will still be charged for 0.3 of a metre..
I'm currently getting 4 mm toughend for £13-00 per square metre but if a glass company has a workshop and employees to pay for the OP will probably looking at paying about £23-00 per square metre or £6-90 per pane ......0 -
I thought only panes over a certain size had to be toughened?
As there are 9 Panes these may be under said size. Irrelevant though if OP prefers toughened. Good luck getting the beading off, some of these glazed doors seem to have a slot and glass inserted during build up of door.0 -

15 x £ 6.90 = £ 103.50 so my £ 100 guesstimate wasn't that far out.

Your right, my building regs book is at the workshop. If memory serves me right the appeture size where toughend is not necessary is very very small.....Good point about the glass being fitted as the door is constructed as replacing the glass can be difficult, need to cut out one side of the glazing bar...
General rule is any glass below 1.5 metres in door should be toughend and any glass within 300mm of a door should be toughend.Although you can use 6.4mm laminated but its added weight and more expensive...0 -
More like £120+ for 15 panes of safety glass. If you have a young child why not do just the bottom half in safety glass, as it only needs to be 1500mm FFL to meet building regs.
6mm normal float glass is considered robust enough if the the total area of each pane is less than 0.5mtr, so a each pane in a 15 panel door is far below that to meet regs.
if you intend to replace the glass yourself, it is not a easy job to do. Rock hard putty is not easy to remove, and could easy damage the door and beads.0 -
Forget changing glass if it isn't beaded. Your talking a chippie or glazer for a day and a right mess of a door afterwards. If you can find a similar door on the shelf, or (likely) don't have anything to match up to, then buy a new door. New door £70 ish, fitted 50 ish 120 all done, toughened.0
