replacement safety glass panes for a 15 pane internal door?

We want to replace the glass in our internal front door with safety glass as a couple of the original panes are cracked. We dont want to replace the door as it matches everything else and I presumed you would be able to get a pack of panes of glass for this purpose but I cant find anything online. Look like a fairly standard size and all rectangular although I've not measured them yet.

Anyone done anything similar or have superior searching skills?

Thanks :)

If you take the measurements to any glazier, they will cut them for you very quickly. It won't cost much either. Just have a look on yell.com and then pop in with the measurements!

Thats my backup plan but I'm struggling for time these days to do anything, hence the online search.

Plus my only experience of local glaziers was asking about replacement glass for patio doors and was nearly £1000....

Have people actually lost the use of their leGs when it comes to shopping or do people only buy stuff on line?

Have you heard of the High Street? It used to be a very common way of shopping.

So did speaking to people only by being in front of them and sending messages by horse back in darka ages.

plus there are not many glaziers on the high street round here........

Thanks for the valuable response to my query though.....

Trouble is - glass doesn't really lend itself well to online sales - it sort of works in a premium form if you want a framed mirror etc, but 15 small bits of glass is going to be a nightmare to pack up for delivery so its uncompetitive against someone cutting bits off a large sheet in a backstreet lockup.

I'd go for having a look on something like Yell.com for replacement glass in your area, find an independant dealer and phone them up. They are usually pretty helpful. I've had to do it a few times for work and its pretty painless. With a bit of luck you can arrange to give them the measurements and then call round to pick the glass up at a convenient time.

no couriers will insure glass, so any damage is down to you. to reorder again.

as above, use a local glass company. glass is pretty cheap stuff.
    Get some gorm.

In this case the glass will need to be toughened to make it safety glass and Bldg Regs won't be met if you use ordinary glass. You can't just cut toughened glass off a sheet in the shop. There will be a minimum charge up to a certain meterage for the toughening process then prorata after that.

Expect to have to pay somthing iro £ 100 for your new glass for this door.

Surely, if you had safety glass in the door it would not have just cracked, it would have gone into thousands of pieces.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

I had the impression that it was older non-safety glass that had cracked but the OP wants to replace the whole lot (including uncracked panes) with safety glass. But I could be wrong.

    Thanks folks.

At the moment the glass is not safety glass and 2 panes are cracked after the door blew shut. As we've got a young child I thought that if I was going to replace a couple I would be better to do them all.

My MIL has been quoted £100 to have a similar door frame glazed (new but unglazed), I presume with safety glass but will need to check, so I was presuming that the glass itself could probably be bought for significantly under £100 as I guess labour must make up a reasonable amount of the total. That said I guess glazing a new door is relatively trivial given that its ready prepared for that task so maybe it wouldn't take an experienced person very long? I'm going to get her to ask about getting us some glass when she takes her door up to be glazed.
