Rejoining O2 broadband as new customer

I'm coming to the end of my O2 broadband contract. Being an O2 mobile customer, I believe joining O2 as a new customer for another 12 months of broadband is going to be the cheapest way for me to get broadband. This is because, they are currently offering 3 months free line rental to new customers and I would take advantage of new customer quidco cashback.
The problem is that I'm not sure the cheapest/easiest way to re-join O2 as a new customer. I have already obtained a MAC code from O2 for my current contract.
My initial concern is whether O2 allow me to join as a new customer with a MAC code from my old O2 account? If that won't work, then another idea was to use sign-up to an interim broadband provider that offers something like a 30 day tariff. I would then grab a MAC code from the interim provider and hop over to O2 as a new customer.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure there are people who have done this already as the O2 broadband deals seem to be very popular.
Many thanks in advance

No you can't. If you could, everyone would do it. A MAC is for a transfer to a new ISP.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

You need to wait 6 months after leaving them before they will have you back.0

Plus the new contracts are significantly more restrictive than the old.0

Are you able to give details as to how they are more restrictive?0 -
Depends on package chosen. Their old packages were uncapped and unshaped with no specified FUP. To see exactly what you get with the new ones check the O2 website - I think they are all have a fixed FUP and are subject to traffic shaping. If you are a light user that won't trouble you.
They used to do 3 months free in return for signing up for another 12 months but I suspect they'd insist on a contract change too.0 -

No, they'll still do you £2.50/month discount for renewing an existing "old" style contract.0 -
That looks to me to be the way to go then - keeps download options open even if not currently needed.0
