Can you use 'free top-up' credit to unlock Tesco mobile?

Options
When you get a tesco payg mobile unlocked, does the fee come out of your credit or do you have to give them more money?

They are currently offering a free £20 top-up with some new payg phones. I was wondering if you could buy the phone, activate it, and straight away spend the free top-up credit having it unlocked?

Anybody know?

I very much doubt it would come from the free credit.

Sending normal texts, making calls to landlines and mobiles and internet use come out of the free credit but when I've sent texts to short code numbers the cost comes off my real balance.

If you're looking instore, then the answer should be yes. (The 'free' credit will come as a voucher, which can then be exchanged for a standard topup voucher out the till)

I can't guarantee what the online offer will be, but I suspect they'll again provide either a voucher to exchange for a topup or a topup voucher :)
