hi there
i'm in plymouth and our local bus company drivers have been telling me that we will soon have to pay to take our buggy on the bus, does anywhere else in the countrie have this policy?

thats what i thought, but i assume they mean when you don't take baby out as it uses a space, i'm really worried as i use the bus loads and it's 4 buses a day just for the school run!
  • What????????? First they want us to stop using our cars to save the environment.. and then they want to charge people who do give up their cars to take buggys on buses???????? Absolutely ridiculous and there'll be uproar if they actually go through with it.

I've not heard of it in Blackpool - that said not many of the buses cater for pushchairs that left up and those that do will only let on 1 pushchair or wheelchair - even though there is room for 2 or 3 !
  • Have you spoken to the bus company to get a definite answer? If it is correct then I would think your local paper would be interested, give them a call as well.

I 'd be tempted to write to my MP. As immoral pointed out, we should be encouraged to ditch the car whenever we can - not penalised.
  • I would suggest getting in touch with your local newspaper.

They would love a story like this, and it might just shame the bus company into dropping its policy before they try to implement it!

I have used my local paper for many different protests in the past, and I can confirm to date each time they have printed my story, I have had the desired effect. Even if one huge issue which I have been petitioning on for a year now is only just starting to show signs of coming round to our way (the local residents) of thinking

Sorry but that's shocking, contact local authority and if it's true I would be going straight to the local news/papers.
One day I might be more organised...........

there should not be a charge for a buggy being used to carry a child,

the people they should charge extra though are those that stand at a bus stop for half an hour and then when they get on the bus decide it is time to find their pass aor change and start digging around their bags/pockets looking.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

Yes as others have said, local papers and MP, that's ridiculous! Unless they are going to give you some kind of personal service, jump out of the driving seat, rush round and fold your buggy for you and the same when you get off. Well it's hard enough doing all that! Are the buses normally full or something? They ought to be putting on more of them if they are. Write to bus company too. Contact national papers as well as local, also TV/Radio.
