Funeral flowers - same price wherever?

Just to add my thoughts - when my MIL died, all her other children, and the grandchildren, bought single red roses, which were placed on her coffin. TBH there wasn't anything special about it and it seemed to me and the OH that no thought had gone into it (or they didn't know her that well) - she actually didn't like red roses!
I bought half a dozen bunches of her favourite flowers - sweet peas (she had them in her wedding bouquet apparently), put them all together to make one big bunch and added a bit of evergreen foliage from my garden. It looked lovely (and I'm no florist!) and I know she'd have loved it, especially if she'd known it cost me less than a fiver (she was very MS herself!). So OK, I'm a cheapskate but TBH I couldn't have cared less what any of the other mourners thought - it really was the thought for her that counted IMO.0 -
Thanks for all your thoughts.
Although I wasn't told what to get, I was told what not to get. On no account was red to be included (probably some superstition from way back). So that excludes the single red rose idea.
Anyway, I've finally bitten the bullet and ordered a wreath. I was beginning to get all worked up about it all as I knew my siblings had ordered wreaths already and I felt like my searching for cheaper alternatives was kind letting the side down.
It's done now.....will get myself over to the Old Style board for tips on how to make beans more interesting.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I have heard a single yellow rose are traditional funeral flowers from Children/Grandchildren to be placed on top of the coffin.
I am sure what you have ordered will be lovely.0 -

Can I just tell you my funeral flower story before you wander off?
After my Nan died we all went to the florist to look at flowers.
I just knew I had to get a 'nan' made up as my Nan would have loved it. There really was no option/doubt in my mind.
I asked how much it was.
£30 a letter replied the florist.
'bl00dy good job I didn't call her Grandma then' was my reply
Florist didn't see the funny side.
My Nan would have doneSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

Ok, wasn't going to admit to this in case anyone thought it was bad order given the subject........but the site I bought the wreath from had a glitch. The small wreath was £5 cheaper than it should have been but better still, if you clicked on the large version...it only added on 12p, so I got a large wreath for £15 cheaper than it should have been.
I can only assume they caught on as soon as my order went through because they changed the site prices straight away.
Can't help but feel someone was helping me.How often do you see a glitch on a site for funeral flowers just when you need one?

I knew it'd raise a smile from you
I think a funeral glitch is pretty damn fine...moneysaving is moneysaving after all.
It's all help towards the travel/hotel costs after all
Hope everything goes smoothly for you xxSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
When my Aunty died a few years back my Dad who was a great gardener made a lovely wreath with flowers from his own garden. My aunt absolutely loved my Dads garden and everyone at the funeral commented on the wreath.
Re the hotel why dont you look up B&B's in Edinburgh and I am sure you will find something cheaper. Also Trip Advisor is worth a look.
BTW my Dad has Alzheimers and has forgotten all about his garden but was pleased when I made a new Hanging basket for them today0
