Funeral flowers - same price wherever?

I've been shocked to see the price of wreaths. Is this the kind if thing that is the same price no matter where you look?
I really am not trying to skimp or be tight and I feel a bit bad for even thinking about cost
but our finances are being stretched to the limit as it is because of the big rugby match that's on in Edinburgh the same weekend as the funeral. The hotels have increased their prices by a huge margin then. The hotel where the funeral is being catered for, has rooms for £119 that weekend and they are only £60 the day before and £49 the weekend after. The travel lodge and premier inn etc have also increased their prices that weekend. We need to stay over because of family plans (we live 200 miles away) so have no option but to book somewhere.
Whilst I don't grudge spending one penny piece, it's going to cost us around £150 to attend the funeral before I've even paid for the wreath so I'm wondering if there's cheaper flower places out there or are they all the same and there's no point in looking?

There are cheaper places. Try small local florists or online if you have time. We were quoted around £250 for the coffin spray for my grandads funeral but a family member looked around and got one that looked exactly the same for £75 in a little florists in a nearby village.
You could also buy flowers and make something yourself if you feel up to it.
Sorry for your loss.:j0 -
you dont need to get a wreath aliasojo. ask in local florists for a 'spray' of flowers, and choose white or purple ribbon - at least that is what they are called here. they are usually much cheaper. and entirely appropriate for grandchildren.
small town florists tend to be a lot cheaper than city florists - to be fair city florists have higher overheads. (I assume this is for your nans funeral?)0 -

Aunt's. I'd be a bit worried about people thinking I was being cheap if everyone else is sending a wreath.Herman - MP for all!0 -

Why don't you stay just over the water in Fife & get the train in to Edinburgh - please PM me if you need more info -it might work out a lot cheaper
PS - we had a beautiful wreath/spray of flowers for my Mum - about £80 from a florist in GlenrothesDebts 07/12/2021

alias, you can order something called a 'posy', which is an arrangement of flowers in an oasis & tray. I order one each year for my neice's grave, and the prices start from £15-20, and they make a very attractive and not budget looking arrangment.
They look a bit like this:One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Actually we have other family in Bo'ness and have stayed there before and got the train in. It took less than 30 minutes from memory.
This time though, because of certain commitments, and the logistics and practicalities involved, (involving other family members too) we really would be better staying in Edinburgh itself.Herman - MP for all!0 -

That looks nice. How big are these things? Are they wreath size or smaller than a wreath?Herman - MP for all!0 -
If I was your nan I wouldnt want you to skint yourself buying flowers for me when they are just going to be rotting in a couple of days.
I have told my lot that I would rather the money that they will spend must be collected and given to the local homeless charity.
My last act of doing something for some one else.
What does the person who is arranging the funeral say about flowers etc.
Nan has maybe left wishes to do with this.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
ok, don't order flowers through the funeral director, they order through a local florist but charge about 20% on top for the privelidge.
go to a local florist, you can ask what florist the family are using, pay them a vist and ask them what other people have ordered.
be sure about what you ask for. Some people assume all funeral flowers are called wreaths. They are not.
a double ended spray is a diamond shaped arrangement in oasis foam, should cost upwards of £20. Let the florist know if you want specific flowers like roses or lillies, (which cost more) or you would like "cheaper flowers" to make it look larger.
arrangements like wreaths cost more because of the frame they are on and take a little longer to make. expect to pay around £30 plus for those. interfloras website has plenty of pictures but you should expect to pay less than some of their rediculous prices.0
