Netflights arrangement fee

I have just been through the flight confirmation process on Netflights website and only after adding my credit card details and clicking the Confirm button did I notice a very sly arrangement fee of £19 added to the price. I'm absolutely incensed at this and want to cancel as I know I can get the flight with another agent at the same price without any added fees. Does anyone know if I can cancel a booking confirmation? Hope someone can help, people need warning about this crafty scam. Thanks

The fee is added before you hit confirm, hence you agreed to it hence no refund.

  • It is purposely made to be not too obvious to the customer. I feel I have been fleeced. Also I am angry that travelsupermarket is not adding these fees to their comparisons. Expedia was only a few pence more expensive in the comparison and they are not adding any fees. We are complete mugs in this country for allowing this sort of scam. I will not stop complaining about this until I either get the fee back or my booking is cancelled. I work hard for every penny I earn and don't have to deceive and scam anybody for it.

Are you sure it is an "arrangement fee" and not a "handling fee"?

it's a handling fee due to using a credit card to pay...it looks pretty clear to me on the booking screen.

Travelsupermarket do not know how a particular passenger will be paying, so cannot add the handling fee to their search details.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Yes, my mistake, it is a credit card handling fee. And yet rather than showing the charges clearly at the payment stage, they merely show a little 'i' for information for you to click on next to the words 'handling charge', which in my opinion is totally inadequate, as is the final confirm button which looks like you are simply confirming your details rather than committing to buy. Many people must have been caught out by this - I feel it is deliberately deceptive. For anyone having a look to check this it will seem much clearer as you are looking for it!

Also, they make you pay £3.49 for airline failure insurance, which my credit card will already cover! Another scam.

Travelsupermarket are off the hook from me as now i understand this is a cc handling fee they cannot know whether the customer will pay by c or d card.

I wish I'd booked with expedia, who don't charge a cc handling fee.

So its the credit card fee. I'm sorry this is not a scam.

When you select your card type there is text next to it that states "Handling Fee" with a link which explains the fees. The fee is also added to the total price displayed on the left hand side. You have the opportunity to review all this information before you enter your card details and hit book.

Credit card charges are commonplace in the travel industry, and have been for years. BA and Virgin charge a fee on their own websites. If you walk into your high street travel agent they will also charge one, as will a large number of other travel websites. You are quite correct in saying that Expedia do not charge, but they are very much the exception, and not the rule.

I am not sure if you are angry at netflights, or just angry at yourself for not noticing it. I am sorry though, you have not been scammed.

Depending on the value you place on your own time, you may want to investigate if the insurance element has a cooling off period.

When you say that the credit card covers it, do you mean that your credit card has a similar insurance policy built in, where you are automatically covered if the airline goes bust, or do you mean if the airline goes bust then you can claim the money back from your card provider due to not providing the service?
