Diesel Spills

2

Comments

  • I started a thread on here a few weeks ago (sorry, to lazy to find it :p) about how much oil had suddenly appeared on the roads and asking if anyone knew why there would be such an increase.

Everyone who replied pointed out it was the morning after the VAT increase, and the spills were most likely caused by people brimming or over-filling the night before.

Most if not all diesel spills are from commercial vehicles. When somebody sayd they fill to the brim I don't think they mean untill the diesel is dripping down the side of the vehicle.

I seem to remember someone saying that it was due to the temperature of the fuel, the fuel expands as temp rises and it then runs out of the vent hose.

It'll be be the large HGV's that are the cause here as there's no filler neck, just a big old tank strapped to the side of the cab with the fuel cap level with the tank.

Think about how many cars, vans, buses or trucks have you seen with diesel stains around the filler caps. Most of this has ended up on the road.

My car often has a diesel stain around the filler cap. It's nothing to do with brimming - I have to use the filler nozzle to open the anti-misfuelling device and if the previous user has been hasty in whipping away the nozzle then a small quantity of diesel is left in the nozzle. So I end up with a diesel stain.

taffytomtom I agree to a certain point with you

I reckon EVERY car driver should have at least 8 hrs tuition on a motorbike
then they would see how most car drivers treat bike riders

I drive both and cr.p myself when out on my motorbike as I witness

Car drivers pull out in front of me,
Deliberately bust a gut to overtake me on a narrrow road
Deliberately overtake then cut in on me, at least twice I've ended up on the pavement to avoid getting squashed
Drive right up my as. intimidating me
Treat me as scum of the road

    The list is endless
I reckon if every car/lorry/van driver had to have lessons on a bike ,they'd all wise up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I reckon every biker should be forced to sit on the roads in East Yorkshire and watch all the lunatic bikers treating the county like a race track.

Perhaps then they'd understand why they're hated so much.

My mate loves bikers then again he is a transplant co-ordinator at a large west yorks hospital, bank holiday weekends are a boon for the transplant team, especially if it rains.

    lol, !!!!!! you plum.

I'm not claiming there are more tools on bikes than there are in cars, am I?!

Why would I need to provide facts when I'm not claiming anything is fact? I'm just asking someone who claims something is fact, without have anything to back it up, to provide facts.

I've seen many more idiot bikers than I have car drivers, that doesn't make it a fact that there are more idiot bikers than there are car drivers.
