Pc just retsarts and restarts and restarts

Hi
The Pc is an old one and has a XP os to which i dont have any disc's.
I can get the Bios screen but dont know what to do with it.

My pc will not start up all it does is restart and restart,
You get the makers screen
then the "choose start windows normally"
Then this

We aplogize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A
recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

If your computor stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose last known good configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

If a previous start up attempt was interrupted due to a power failer or because
the power or reset button was pressed, or if you arent sure what caused the
problem, choose start windows normally.

Safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with comand prompt

Last known good configuration

Start windows normally
Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.

Then after a GOOD few minutes you get the bar code lines and this takes a good few minutes again to run and then the pc just restarts again with the above message's

You Never get to the M/soft screen except for a split second when i choose "Last known good configuration" then there is a flash of a blue screen with writting on it after it has run through the bar code which again takes a good few minutes.

Advice please

1 - Take the motherboard out of the case and onto a block of wood or table

2 - Hook up onboard VGA (if possible), connect the CPU +12v pin, and RAM and HDD

3 - Power it up, if it reboots (either HDD is goosed, bad component installed, or M/B is goosed)

  • Have you tried Safe Mode / Safe Mode with Networking . ? If that lets you in you could stop it rebooting and stopping it at the Blue Screen.

    Go into Bios
See if the computer recognises your RAM, CPU, HARD DRIVES and DVD DRIVES

Take side off the computer and check all the connections are firmly plugged in

Hard to say without being there. Sorry

The hard drives and dvd drives will be grouped together somewhere (usually one of the 1st menus)
The cpu and ram on the other hand can be difficult to find

Just make sure you DONT save any changes when you leave bios

Chances are you need a fresh copy of windows putting on though
