Royal Mail!

I missed a delivery of two parcels - one too big for my letter box and the other one to sign for on Thursday. I re arranged delivery for Saturday thinking that usually our parcels are delivered before 12.

By 12 no parcels so as my other half was passing the sorting office, he decided to pop in to be told they were out for delivery, by 2pm no delivery so I called the sorting office to be told delivery would occur today.

We waited in all day and no re delivery has taken place. Really annoyed me how incompetent they are grrr :mad::mad:
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

It is very frustrating and I understand your need to vent, hope you feel better for that and get your parcel soon.

If I miss a delivery I go and collect at the sorting office.

At least RM have a network of collection points. When I missed a parcel from DHL, I found their nearest sorting office is 96 miles away and they only deliver every other day to remote areas .......... like Aberdeen!

At my old work they were forever having problems with the sorting office, but I haven't since then. It is very frustrating..If a van breaks down surely they contact the sorting office to let them know? I doubt very much that was the case!

    Right,then what?
they pull out the vacuum packed staff they keep in reserve and pull out one of the many spare vans sitting in the yard just on the off chance.
now with a sprinkling of reality.
    your van breaks down
you try and call the office
managers are out checking up on staff, sacking someone, baling out another office or driving staff out
so you then try to call the desk
of course that lines engaged as it isnt staffed
if you are in an area that has an RM garage then you call them and try and get a solution.
again theres no surplus of vans/staff to just jump into action
whilst all this is happening you cant deliver anything outside if walking distance.
all of this relies on you having a mobile phone that you pay for since RM dont supply phones.

now after all that and if you get a new van/repair.
    then what
should that member of staff now work a few hours over because the van broke down?

in ye olde days RM had duties called contingency duties just for such an eventuality.
    they are long since gone

No i think the op is just saying its frustrating when you arrange a redelivery and wait in all day for it not to turn up - things like breakdowns etc do happen but its still annoying when you wait in all day for a redelivery and it doesnt happen - this has happened to me numerous times and the items have always turned up on the monday by my regular walking postman!

I'm sure the smaller local delivery offices will be one of the first things to go if (when?) Royal Mail is privatised, as many people here seems so keen on

    its already happening
    Edinburgh is a prime example
they had a large central office in town covering multiple postcodes
they sold it and the postcodes were split and moved to existing delivery offices
some of those were displaced further out again in a ripple effect
using central Scotland as an example
i expect the Edinburgh/Glasgow mail centres to be closed and a new one(or the old motorola building RM already use) to be built in the Livingstone area.
then the delivery offices could be relocated to the old mail centres
you should hear people cry when they have to travel a few miles to collect packages
