Royal Mail!

RM is far from perfect, but I don't think privatisation is the answer. I mourne the demise of the Post Office.I'm sure the smaller local delivery offices will be one of the first things to go if (when?) Royal Mail is privatised, as many people here seems so keen on"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Right,then what?
they pull out the vacuum packed staff they keep in reserve and pull out one of the many spare vans sitting in the yard just on the off chance.
now with a sprinkling of reality.
your van breaks down
you try and call the office
managers are out checking up on staff, sacking someone, baling out another office or driving staff out
so you then try to call the desk
of course that lines engaged as it isnt staffed
if you are in an area that has an RM garage then you call them and try and get a solution.
again theres no surplus of vans/staff to just jump into action
whilst all this is happening you cant deliver anything outside if walking distance.
all of this relies on you having a mobile phone that you pay for since RM dont supply phones.
now after all that and if you get a new van/repair.
then what
should that member of staff now work a few hours over because the van broke down?
in ye olde days RM had duties called contingency duties just for such an eventuality.
they are long since gone
You are talking like the van broke down, which I very much doubt. I reckon they just did not bother to deliver them!
if my postie can come in the morning and they usually the parcels are delivered at the same time - why is there even a need to send someone back and waste more time? I managed to get through to the office and was told several vans had gone out in my area with parcels, so am I to assume that all the vans broke down then?No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Exactly I had to wait in all day and usually my parcels are delivered with my post in the normal so why change it all of the sudden I will never know! I will be collecting my parcels from now on. Low and behold actually asking Royal Mail to deliver them, that would be too much!No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Hubby works for RM - admittedly he's up here in the Highlands, so it may be different where you are.
How it works up here is that if you're in a 'Rural Round' you get postie with van who has the mail plus parcels.
If you're in a "Normal" round - postie gets bike or equivalent to deliver and then there is a separate van with parcels.
When you're ordering an item you may get an option for delivery instructions i.e. leave at back door, leave with neighbour or specify your own (I'm forever signing for next doors deliveries from 3rd parties which have the instruction "leave next door - she's a nice lady!"
MY hubby ALWAYS tries to deliver, leave wih neighbours or in a safe place - he's also fallen over 3 times in the ice, !!!!!!ed up his knee, bruised ribs etc, and still finished his shift. Work ethic or company policy - you decide.0 -
Fair one, though - do you expect them to keep a big reserve in place, costing them wages and fuel and putting prices up for everyone?Loanranger wrote: »Nice attitude.
Or do you just expect that for your deliveries?Oh come on, don't be silly.
