I'm not sure if your claim is done and dusted but I've found it cheaper to do the quotes by phone when its not been officially decided it its a non fault claim or not. You can haggle that way. Our claim is now coming to an end after 3 years after someone ran in the back of us and said it was our fault (!). We're changed insurance since and the insurers normally make a note on the system that its still pending, we've been told we can claim the extra back.
Keep a note of the extra you will have to pay. keep a receipt of EVERYTHING if its pending. We've even had to produce credit card statements from 2007 to say that we couldn't afford the £500 a day hire car ( who could ) ..a porsche boxster ( not a good car when you have children ) and a brand new Range Rover at the time. A courtesy car was part of our insurance. It's been a stressful 3 years.
Good luck, I hope it goes smoothly for you.I can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
I moved address to 2 miles away, went on swiftcover site to change my address and they wanted 75 quid for it.
Needless to say, I have left it as it was and will not be using them again when my policy expires in april.
Just to prove to myself my new postcode was no more risk than my old one, I went onto swiftcover again as a new customer and got a new quote for the new postcode and it gave me a yearly premium quote of £5 less. Therefore they were trying to rob me.
As injust as it seems you are now breaking the terms of your policy and risk not being covered.0 -

Well so be it. If I have to make a claim or get involved in one in the next 2 months, no problem, as I have a mail redirect to my new address so swiftmuggers can write to me at my old address and it will get to me no problem.0 -
Someone hit my car whilst it was legally parked (luckily they did leave a note) and that cost me an extra £200 a year on my insurance.

A few years back I was involved in an accident, the other driver admitted liability, only when he realised the accident was caught on CCTV. So his insurance company had to pay, not my insurance, HIS insurance.
The bill for the repair was 1260.00, that was the lowest estimate.
The insurance company dragged its heels for a full 3 months only agreeing to pay at the 11th hour to avoid being sued. And even then they would only agree to pay half of the 1260.00 so I ended up with 630.00
Imagine my surprise when it came to renewing my insurance that it had gone up by over 100 quid because I was involved in an accident that was not my fault. Involved in an accident that did not cost my insurance company one penny.
I asked them why were they putting my insurance up when the accident was not down to me, no explanation was given.
So I switched insurance companies and got my insurance renewed for 30 quid cheaper than I had paid a year earlier and guaranteed the same renewal price for the following year.0 -
thanks for the reply, the whole accident thing is still an ongoing drama, this happened in oct 10, his insurance company are still trying to get in contact with him so he will accept liability for the accident. LV have accepted on his behalf, its dragged on for 3 long months, just want it to end now. Ive only just managed to get a courtesy car from LV after 10 wks!! After all the stress and countless phone calls and his ignorance to answer calls and letters he should stump up for the whole bill!;) thanks again for the replyNoSatisfaction wrote: »Op, if you know who damaged your car, sue them for the extra costs on you premium. I have done it successfully.0 -
thanks for takin time to reply, thats exactly why i done the declared and undeclared quote, to see the price difference, and it was worth the time, hence £91 difference, i feel as though im being robbed too. I dont understand why insurers give the option to say who caused the accident, then bump the premium up regardless of whos to blame....its not right!I moved address to 2 miles away, went on swiftcover site to change my address and they wanted 75 quid for it.

Ive spent half the day looking for car insurance quotes after my car has just recently been written off...thru no fault of my own! I did a fully comp quote for a corsa, declaring the accident, cheapest quote £557.41. I thought this was a bit excessive for a 40yr old mum, ive held my clean licence for 21 yrs, so decided to redo the quote and not declare the accident, the quote came back at £466.70!!! a difference of £90+ why am i being penalised when the accident wasnt even caused by me? Does anyone know why this is please..thanks to any replies!

As mentioned, unfortunately even if not your fault, the fact that you were 'involved' leads to a premium increase
Incidentally, how many years NCB do you have? I only ask, as I'd expect a 40 year old female driving a Corsa to have a cheaper quote than £466.0 -
thanks for the advice, ill try a phone quote n see what they say. So 3 yrs and your ordeal is about to come to an end? my god, and we thought we had it bad after 3 mths!! Investigators have been involved to try and contact this...person, to no avail. Dealing with LV-london victoria- has been an absolute nightmare, no one seems to care at all, we have done ALL the running around, all the phoning, i even had to phone and tell his insurance he had the accident!! The tales are endless....now we are just waiting for the total loss team to phone (or not) and inform me when they are going to pay out for my car. Hope your ordeal comes to an end soon...good luck:)I'm not sure if your claim is done and dusted but I've found it cheaper to do the quotes by phone when its not been officially decided it its a non fault claim or not. hi, i have 10 yr NCB. Ive not actually got the corsa yet, i was just doing a quote on a car that was in a lower insurance group, and this is for a bog standard 1.2 corsa...my 1.6 astra wasnt much more than this to insure. I just dont understand how sitting stationary at a roundabout just waiting for my right of way, who then gets hit by a youngish lad in an Audi, with too much power under his right foot "involves" me in the accident..its madness! Insurance companies need to take a good long look at things like this when calculating their quotes, surely only the guilty should be punished. thanks for the replyStrongWork wrote: »As mentioned, unfortunately even if not your fault, the fact that you were 'involved' leads to a premium increase
