Barclaycard not transferring expired card balance

Hello can somebody help me?
I've just opened a Barclaycard Simplicity card with a long term balance transfer rate of 6.8%. The whole point of doing is this is to manage my debt [not too horrendous thankfully] and be actually paying it off rather than making the minimum payments on 3 other cards for a higher amount.
However I can't balance transfer online as this card doesn't have a balance transfer offer it is just the generic rate of the card.
I rang up and successfully transferred two balances. However the last balance belongs to my Tesco ClubCard creditcard. Last year I closed this account to reject a hike in my interest rate. I've kept the card to the account but the expiry date on it is 07/10.
Barclaycard will not transfer this balance because the expiry date on the card is expired. Their computer system simply won't accept it. Tesco's can't give me a new card obviously since the account is closed and gave me an address that Barclaycard could write to. They are also adamant that they don't need an expiry date to transfer a balance and don't understand why Barclaycard do.
Barclaycard refused the address stating data protection issues and still refuse the balance transfer. The only way I can now do this is to wait until one of my other balances transfers to Barclaycard, transfer my Tesco balance to that card and then again transfer that card to Barclaycard. Obviously this seems a completely long winded process and I'm bound to get charged extra by the card in the middle.
Has any one else had this problem? Or more importantly has anyone solved it?
I pointed out there is nothing in their terms and conditions which I agreed to which said the card must not be expired. Also when I suggested that I could get a balance transfer into my current account to then pay Tesco with they said they didn't do that despite their terms and conditions blatantly saying the opposite...
"A balance transfer can be both a transfer from a credit or store card and a transfer to your bank account." [from the Barclaycard Balance Transfer Terms & Conditions webpage - not allowed to post!]
I've put in an official complaint on the basis that they are providing incorrect information but this still doesn't solve my problem with transferring the card.
Help!!

I have experienced this problem too, have contacted the Mumbai contact centre and sent them a secure email. Only to be told that I can't transfer without a valid expiry date on the card. Spoke to Egg and they have said that there is allegedly a 'secret operation' within B'Card that can handle the transfer manually as their computer system has been designed with the card expiry date field being a required field!! I have tried the made up expiry date and there seems to be some sort of validation? Has anyone been successful in transferring an opt'd out account to barclaycard. It's like they don't want my business!!0

I transferred my expired Egg balance in October lastn year. I rang them as I couldn't do online without the expiry date and had no problem transferring over the phone without the expiry date. I would just ring again and maybe get a different member of staff.0

has anyone managed this without an expiry date as egg wont give me mine as the card was repayment only due to a interest rate hike0

Hi - as per my previous post - I did this myself from an expired Egg card back in about October last year. Couldn't do online due to not having expiry date but just rang them and explained and didn't have to give a date. (Maybe the member of staff I spoke to just put a made up date in themselves)? Definately ring them and try again...0 -

Back in October last year, it certainly was possible to do a BT without the expiry date. However, Barclaycard have introduced new systems and new security checks and now the expiry date IS required. Getting a different member of staff won't help as they still have to fill in the same form with a required field for expiry date. Sorry.0 -

Im having EXACTLY the same problem - what did you do in the end - the barclaycard balance transfer expires in 60 days - ive made a complaint to my previous provider but I just dont think they will budge

To the best of my knowledge, a balance transfer to a credit card is a plain BACS electronic transfer, the "new" card issuer just takes the time to hunt down the sort/account code based on the card number.
While they can play hardball and "insist" the old card must be in your name, and that it has to be valid, in reality they should not be able to check it. The other card issuer should not reveal the existence and/or the status of the account merely because someone wants to pay it.
Although I can imagine solutions that help the providers check some of this information, I don't think they do. If you have an old expiry date, just add two years to it (07/10 => 07/12), or even make one up if you don't have one at all.Enjoy the silence...0 -
As stated, make up the expiry date. The expiry date might be "Required" by the new system but it isn't involved in them making the transfer of funds.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
