So, just pre-empting he tirade:
* This is just a vent, I don't expect compensation
* I think the idea of ringing up a store beforehand to check if you can take bags in is ridiculous, even if it is a long journey. I can't think of any other UK store that does this, and this specific store has been fine before.
* I'm not leaving my camera at home as it's meant to be used.
How dare you come on here and not want compo? Compo is an integral part of our Society. Sue someone! Sue Tesco's! Please!
I agree the policy is a tad OTT. Maybe it's an Americanism imported to the UK stores. If they would enforce the policy on everyone then I wouldn't have a problem with it. On the one time I've been asked to leave a bag, I showed them it only had space for my laptop and the staff were OK with it.The man without a signature.0 -
I remember Matalan used to do it years ago, but it didn't last long. They actually had lockers to put them in though.
This was back when you had to pay to become and a member and had to swipe your card to even get in the main bit of the store.0 -
I wanted to try something on in Sports Direct once, and they refused to let me take my bag into the changing room and told me I would have to leave it behind the counter. I wasn't very happy, but they assured me it would be looked after and since the changing rooms were right by the counter, I did what they said. After I came out of the changing room, the counter was completely empty so I walked behind it and took my bag without anyone noticing. Not impressed!
I now refuse to leave my bag anywhere.0 -
There is an American flash mob video on Youtube. 50+ people go into a bookshop and hand over their bags in accordance with the shop's policy. Every bag contains a mobile phone switched on with the volume set loud. Outside the shop is 50+ people calling different mobiles... one very confused shop assistant.Sealed Pot Challenge 2011 #11480

Ahh i see now where i went wrong when i started the thread "we have no water" on here last night. I didnt "pre empt the tirade" Well you live and learn i suppose. How sad that you have to though. It just shows how society in this country has lost its compassion.Half my family is Italian and you dont get that attitude over there. Maybe some people are just so bitter about their personal or financial situation that they come on sites like these to take it out on other people annonymously over a PC which just shows what nasty minded bullying spineless cowards some people are.0

I think you were very badly treated on your 'no water' thread as was the lady whose mother found the chicken bone in her pie in her thread.
Unfortunately that happens with threads sometimes.
If the first few people have a less than sympathetic attitude you get a lot of bullies who, seeing that they are part of a 'gang' let loose in a way that they would never dare do if they were the first responder.
How many people in that thread just repeated the same two things without adding anything useful?

thankyou azari I know what you mean. Its the mob mentality isnt it. It just shows that some of them on that thread just follow the mob because they cant think for themselves. Hmmm this has given me an idea for a writing competition im thinking of entering.:D0

I'd be even more annoyed if they were profiling customers based on looks.0
