Fine. So you quantify what your losses are.

    £900 x 3%pa x 2 months = £4.50
    2 hours at £10 an hour = £20
    Telephone calls = £8
    Goodwill payment = £50

You return the funds paid in error with a letter of complaint explaining how this simply tops off their poor administration and service. Quantify the numbers as above (reasonable estimate for telephone calls, don't go above £10 an hour for time) and ask them to reimburse this amount or a greater value if they think a larger sum is due.

It might not get you £900. But it's far better than getting an 18 month sentence for theft.

    ...sounds reasonable...I'll do that...thanks :)

Ok OK; so I get the point...don't move the money...fine...blimey..so shoot me!!

I've stolen nothing! I recieved a cheque on Thursday....I cashed it Friday...I open the post this morning....notification of BACS payment...then I check the account and there I find the extra money...yes obviously; If there was a loophole of keeping it then I wanted to know...and I'm pretty sure a lot of people here would be keen to do the same!
  • Withdraw all cash and leave the country!!
  • I do hope that the cheque will be returned to OP marked ''payment stopped''.

they've had my £900 for over 2 months...I've lost interest, time, and not to mention the cost of the premium rate numbers
You cannot justify theft. You are not £900 +£900 out of pocket.
    ....frankly I question their morals...!
Can you not see the irony in that statement.
What are the chances of them finding out in the first place!?
    Very high!
If this goes unoticed for too long, i bet anything you will be back here whining when they take the lot off you and leave you skint.
It's thieves like you that make the charges higher for the rest of us.

    I've stolen nothing!

But you were asking how you could.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
  • Do the right thing and return it!

Agreed, could do with less criminals in the country .
  • why his he a scum bag if he keeps it?.

i would keep it and answer the questions later lets just say its a little bit extra, just spend it if you can afford to put it back at a later date if they find out.

yes i would spend it too and blow the lot.
