Roller skating with a dog.... would you?

My dog is really high energy but if I let her off the lead she does not come back. Its a shame really as she spoils it for herself as she really needs a good run. It's really annoying as she is not interested in other dogs or people, she just runs off and won't come back.
I've done loads of long lead recall training and she comes back every single time I recall her so I thought I would let her off yesterday. After all my training I thought I would take her to a woods that my friend mentioned as it is very quiet. I assessed the area but she just ran off into the woods, went through a river and into a horse field where there where horses and rolled in the horse poo. I was terrified she would get shot at or something, but she came back the woods after a few minutes and after 10 minutes running around she laid down to roll in something else and my friend managed to get hold of her.
So I now thought I might get some skates so that she gets a run. We have a huge cycle track that goes around town so I could use that and if she was on the halti she would not pull me over. Or would she. I am not too good on a bike but I could give that a go.
I just wondered what others thought of my [possibly rather stupid] idea as then I would get some exercise too and I thought it might be fun. Or not. I need to give her somewhere to run so I thought this was the answer.

Is she a big dog?
My daughter had this idea with our greyhound (without discussing it), although I gave her a right rollocking afterwards because if he had seen a cat he would have taken off (even across a road), she actually injured herself because he stopped dead and she didn't realise it in time.
If you have are able to stop and manage your dog while on skates then it could be a good idea, for our dog it was a bit of a silly idea and I'm glad it just ended up with a grazed knee, it could have been much worse.0 -

I'd have a broken limb within 10 minutes with my dog.0 -
Do what caeser milan does and get you and pooch a treadmill.

I actually would feel guilty for having a treadmill. I just feel it is such a shame she cannot have a run and I wanted to help her.
She is a staff cross shar-pei and is the size of a CP with the strength of a staff. I did think that with the halti on (I walk her on it so she is used to it) it might prevent her from pulling me over.
I've put out a request locally for someone with a large enclosed paddock or garden that I could use, I'd even be willing to pay, because it's catch 22. If I don't let her off she will never learn, if I keep her on the lead the recall is good. Only I cannot have her on the long lead in the woods or in the meadow behind the house as the lead gets stuck in brambles and around trees. I've tried it already.0 -
I wonder if I start with the pup then that'll get me used to being on skates with a small dog and then move up to the bigger dog. Obviously she would not be pulling me but I could skate while she runs.
Thing is. 30 years ago I was quite good on a pair of skates. I wonder how long it takes to get used to them again....?0 -

I think the clue is in bold.
:D
Ach I'm just kidding. Go for it, I think it's a good idea if you feel you are safe enough on the skates. A lot of people do this so it must work well for some. Wont know until you try, as they say.

LOL, I know. I am willing to give it a try, the worst I can do is damage my pride, I thought I would practice at night. In the darkest street I could find. LOL. I used to love rollerskating, surely I can't have forgotten that much...

it could work.......Make sure you've got your helmet and pads on, just in case it goes wrong!!
I did think I could borrow the kids elbow and knee pads and put them under my trousers - just in case. :rotfl:
I think I need to go to Sport & Soccor and see what they have. I want some quad skates, not inline skates, I think you look a bit stupid trying to skate in those where as I would look all trendy and retro in my quads. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
As for the youtube comment. Maybe You've Been Framed, I could earn £250 on there!!
The place we walk the dogs each day is pretty much smmoth path all the way. I am not sure I would want anyone know knows me to actually see me though so that might be a problem. Not til I am 'cutting some moves' anyhow!! :rotfl: 0
