Servicing Mazda 6 - How Much?

Hi,
just wanted to see if anyone can offer some guidance or opinion.
I've just had my 2006 Mazda 6 diesel (70K) serviced by a local garage. I used them for MOT's as they seem to be cheap and reliable but I was surprised by this. but do I have any right to be?
For the following:
- Full Service, incl oil change, & filters. £285
- Change front+ rear brake pads. £250
that just seems fairly high to me, am I being unreasonable? that seems like what I should be paying at the main dealer, not the local guy. Kwik Fit seem to be quoting much less.
any thoughts would be appreciated?

By the time Kwik Fit have added on the shocks, brakes, exhaust, aircon regas and new battery you will have paid double.0

It'll be an hour labour or so each for front and back brakes, + £60 or so each pads, +vat. Doen't seem ott.
Service seems a normal price.0 -
I recently had a 115000 miles service on my 2007 mazda 6 at the main dealer for £225.
As the 6 diesel engine has a dpf fitted, the oil needs to be Mazda Dexelia DPF engine oil and that is apparently expensive.
Also the service light needs resetting by the main dealer as they have the software otherwise when the service is due you will get the dreaded dpf light on the dashboard.
I thought the cambelt needed changing at 75k too and that will set you back at around £800.

Other than Oil & Filters etc what else did their full service include?
Brakes sound on expensive side to me...0 -
Way expensive for an indy.
Did the indy use genuine pads or quality aftermarket, if aftermarket that price should have included new discs, if OE then still high.
Ah, see you're in London, that explains it...people travel from there to Northants to my Mercedes indy, not just for cost but his expertise.0 -

as far as I am aware, that's it.
just a regular full service, I was just surprised to be billed £5350 -

You are correct to be suprised for what is basically a Ford Mondeo, ie, mainstream.
As above a major service is nothing more than an overall check, they don't change cambelt/aux belt, I bet they didnt change brake fluid or engine coolant. If they did the latter 2 items it becomes more realistic. However in effect they have charged you twice for the brakes as 1/2 the job is examining and reporting, :A, changing and cost should not be expensive.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Avoid quickfit like the Plague! It's been on a few of those 'shows' that expose the crappy work they do. Also on another forum i post on people steer clear of the place. Seem to do a half arsed job.
The changing of the pads i suppose depends on how much they charge per hour, & at a guess, both front/rear pads would take about 20 mins each?
Does seem a tad high.0 -
Does you car use Platinum Spark Plugs like some japanese vehicles as these along would be £15-£20 each as that alone would account for £80 the filters oil etc would prob add up to another £70 so id say upto £180 in servicing would be correct for your vehicle from an Independant.0
