Repeated unauthorised entry by landlord

chicken_licken - a LL who behaves like this is not going to stop without "official" pressure to do so IMO .
Get the lock barrels changed pronto and as others have said, do check for cameras in the property.
Get in touch with the local Council's Tenancy Relations Officer (private sector housing) - they can speak direct to the LL.
You may also like to talk to Shelter 0808 800 444, or Community Legal Advice, as a solicitor's letter setting out what exclusive occupation means, and what the criminal charge of tenant harassment is likely to mean for the LL, may be useful.0 -
I'd go for the simple solution and get out of the property as soon as you can. In the meantime, get a scary friend to give the LL a bit of a fright.
Do you know where the LL lives? Do a jobbie in a brown paper bag, set it on fire on his doorstep.0 -
The OP cannot easily get out of the property without being responsible for the rent until the end of the term. I'd go down the route of potential harassment with a nice, firm solicitor's letter once I'd changed the barrels of the locks. I can't see any judge siding with the landlord under the circumstances if the OP has compelling documentary evidence of the continued intrusion.0

And?
Being evicted from some nosey sod's property has got to be a blessing.0 -
Hey all,
No boradband for a few days, my router had an episode!
My Dad came over and changed the locks for me, keeping the old ones as suggested. Luckily he was able to stay for a few days and caught the creep in the garden!
He said that he was checking th garden as per the periodic inspection, absolute rubbish. Police called, complaint filed. My dad said I wasn't staying in the house any longer, we had a letter hand delivered by a woman yesterday saying 'further to your request to mutually end your tenancy without penalty, I am happy to agree to this, owing to the change in your personal circumstances. Please advise the office of your intended move out date so your check out may be completed'
Well, it was wordier than that but he's letting me go, which is a blessed relief, so I have applied for another property through an agency (one with a good local reputation!) and having issues with that, but that's another story.
Thank you all for the advice, luckily, it paid off and I'm free to move!0 -
Wow, he really was a psycho wasn't he. I guess you can at least be relieved he wasn't a violent psycho.Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.0

Good luck with finding a new home, one that has a decent LL.
Once you are safely out of that place please send a letter to the Council's tenancy Relations Officer ( private sector housing) because they should be made aware of private LLs on their patch who behave in this fashion.0 -

Excellent advice. Please do this. As he has a number of properties, he will be known to the council department anyway (if only for being a student landlord I would have thought), so it's important they have information about these things. I'm really pleased that you're getting out. I've been a single mum, with a young child, in rented and have always been so lucky with lovely landlords and neighbours. Would council or housing association be able to help out at all? It's a stable tenancy after all.
Best of luck for the move, hope all goes well, and you have a great new home to settle into soon.xx

If he is a LL of students, also report him to the college / uni accommodation office so they can take him off their lists.0
