Cheap One Way Tix from Barbados to UK?

I would be grateful if someone could help me with a question I have regarding flights from Barbados to the UK. I have been searching for one way flights to the UK from Barbados for end Feb/early March. However, the cheapest tickets I can find are circa £700 each. For 3 people, that is pretty pricey.

However, if I booked a return from UK to Barbados, the tickets would cost £432 each. Can someone tell me what would happen if I booked the return tickets but my parents only used the return leg of the journey? Would the tickets get cancelled for the return leg even if my parents call to reconfirm within the required timeframe for the return leg? Been searching to see if airlines cancel the return leg were passengers don't use the outbound flight out but so far no luck. I cant believe the difference in ticket prices and it just sticks in my throat to fork out all that money for a one way fare when the return is cheaper. And yes, I understand why the one way is more expensive but I'm still gutted. Any advice would be gratefully received and any trabel agents who can give me a good fare are also welcome to chip in. Many thanks in advance for any help given.

I've read on here many times before that the return leg would automatically get cancelled if you did that.

What happens if you book a return from Barbados to the UK? Is that cheaper?

They could use the outbound to get to the UK, then forget the return. Its technically breach of contract, but the airline are unlikely to pursue you for the difference.

Thank you malkie. I did try that yesterday and the flights were still curca £700. However, woke up this morn and resumed my search and voila, found tickets for £550 each return from BB to UK. Will go ajead and book those instead. Much better prices and on virgin, that's not too bad for Barbados.
  • Oh, I used a website that took me ages to find. I will give feedback after my parents have flown in. The site I used is www.ticketstoworld.co.uk

It was the cheapest by miles. Used all the other usual ones, opodo, expedia, lastminute, skyscanner, cheapflights etc but all of them were circa £600 & above.

would recommend having a trawl for reviews, I found a couple where the tickets were not available and cancelled, not that it means it will happen to you but if you have booked may be worth chasing them this week to check that it is all booked and ticketed

You may have got yourself sorted by now, but it is always more expensive to book a one way ticket than it is to book a return. If you book a return and don't use it - then that leg of the journey is cancelled and the seat is allocated to those on standby.

Thank you Caz. I am usually suspicious of websites I have never dealt with before and tend to be very cautious until proven otherwise i.e. I make phone calls and emails within the 72 hours if confirmations and the like haven't come through within that time frame. As I have never used these people before, they will find me quite annoying until my parents have actually arrived. If I'm happy with them, I'll be booking flights for 20 to Zimbabwe with them for the summer holiday as their flights to there are also pretty reasonable. They stand to gain quite a bit of business from me if all goes well as we do long haul family trips quite a lot. So, I'm test driving them, so to speak. :D
