How can I get our towels soft again?

We use bio powder with fabric softener on a 40 degree wash and everytime we wash towels they go all hard and scratchy even if they're new before they're washed...
Any ideas how I can get them soft again?

  • What sort of machine do you have? How are you drying them?

  • Just an automatic and we dry them on radiators as we don't have a tumble dryer.

The only way I have managed to get my towels soft n fluffy is by tumble drying them, do you have a neighbour or a family member you could ask to use their machine in return for something?

I agree you need a tumble dryer.Buy a cheapy tumble dryer or ask on freecycle website near you and then do what i do.Put towels on line until nearly dry and just finish them off in tumble dryer & use that new light coffee colour fabric conditioner from comfort it is the best i have ever used & smells delicious!

  • Im still trying to get my nan to tel me how she keeps hers fluffy, she doesn't have a tumble dryer but from a young age I remember her having REALLY fluffy towels, grrrrr, surely its time to hand over the family secrets now....

Ive never used conditioner on mine but the BF uses it on his when he does the washing. Mine normally come out softer, we don't use our tumble dryer, just shake them out and hang over a rack.

Oh and doesn't fabric conditioner stop them being as absorbent?

i agree tumble drying worked really well for me!
but try just rinsing them in extra softner and when trying them shake them out every so often as they are drying

Might want to ask for this to be moved over to the Old Style board - likely to get more answers there.
