Hi, anyone struggling with the wind and there wood stove. Its very difficult to adjust when its gusting so much. I do use a flue damper when its windy as well as the stove controls but as soon as you set it the wind stops gusting and the fire starts to struggle for air. Set it the other way and it burning logs like crazy.
Any tips?

Just need to adjust as needs - maybe you need a cowl on the chimney? But it has been very windy & I just open & close the valve on the stove.0

Yes that could be the answer. I have a standard 300mm cannon chimney pot0

Today is too mild to have a stove lit0

You could install a crown top chimney pot. This would stop the wind causing it to over draw.....also check your rope seals. If your stove is air tight it can't possibly over draw. Failing that you could fit a draught stabiliser..........they're a bit like a flue damper but self adjusting.
What stove is it?0 -
Hi, Its a tiger plus with the grate removed and 1/2 inch vermiculite over the original fire brick and across the bottom. the door seal rope is new this year, I think my draw is very good for an unlined chimney and it runs through the center of the house. the problem may be the the top vent seems to flap/rattle in strong winds perhaps it need some sort of spring or tighter tolerances. Most of the time the stove runs fine and my glass stays perfectly clean. i just wondered if anyone else had this type of problem. In the summer I will see if I can take apart the top vent arrangement with a view to improving it.0

I'm having real issues with my new Aga stove (Much Wenlock). I'm calling the installer Monday. I thought I had bad down draft but after the post above I think it's overdraw. I have very little control over it's burning and the wind has really highlighted it, I thought it was user error as I'm quite new to this. I ran it Friday with all the vents shut completely, even when a new log was put on there was no need to open them.
If I put a flame under the baffle it wants to pull the flame but at the same time blowing it all over the place. If I put my hand above the baffle I can feel cold air blowing down.
Without the strong wind I had real trouble getting up to a good temperature and keeping it there, it seems to want to cool down quite quickly.
The wind coming down is also being able to escape out of the collar on the stove where the 45 degree bend goes into. It's been stuck into the stove with black mastic looking stuff, but there seems a bit unsealed and cold air is blowing out. Could this on t's own cause an overdraw perhaps?0
