So is this just a general letter that they send out sporadically to keep up to date with everyone?
Hi,, this happened to me once too. It genuinely is random, so it's nothing to worry about. It's like every other time. You go in, you sit down, they look at your information and ask you to repeat back the info on their systems. They say thanks, and you leave. And that's it.
tbh, it just looked to me like another way for the goverment to waste money.0 -
If they sent out namby pamby letters, no-one would bother attending the interviews. Of course, half the recipients won't turn up anyway no matter what the content is, citing they never even got the letter in the first place, nor the reminder. In some households DWP letters invariably go from doormat to dustbin without anything happening in between, apart from a casual shake about to see if it contains a giro.
It's only when they get their benefit suspended that they'll finally emerge. "I didn't know about the interview", "you never sent me a letter", "are you calling me a liar", "i want to speak to your supervisor", "you're alright with your fancy wages, i'm on the poverty line", "i bet you don't know what it's like to be poor" ad nauseumI no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -
Fair point. I guess they are dealing with a whole range of society. I had a feeling it was a generic letter as parts of the id they ask for dont really apply to me. Will go along and supply them with whatever they need to know. Thanks for all your responses guys.0

I had one of these last year and was worried sick about it even though I was doing nothing wrong. Basically its just a check to see that you are who you say you are and that your circumstances haven't changed since you filled out your claim form.
I agree that if they made these letters to friendly alot of people wouldn't turn up. They have to make you feel like you have got to go.
As you have been honest with them and kept them up to date you should have nothing to worry about0 -
I can see why you're feeling as you do, not very nice receiving a letter like that.
Having said that I guess it's good they check details with claimants every now and then, I'd be reassured following this that everything's right with your claim.
everything will be fine0 -
I worked for one of the most hated government departments for 25 years, and therefore I am not easily intimidated. There is a BIG difference however, with a "namby pamby" letter and one that is aggressive in its approach. There are always those who will ignore the letters not from fear but from not giving a d*mn. There are also those who have nothing to fear, but a letter worded the way they are, will paralyse them with fear. Bearing in mind that many on disability are very vulnerable and stigmatised already. Thus, they will not turn up for the interview.
I do understand that these letters are generic and cannot be changed. I also believe that if nothing is said about the content, change will not happen.
I suffer from anxiety/depression but deal with my daughter's benefits. When I first opened and read the letter from "compliance" I nearly passed out. Sorry if that sounds pathetic, but that's how I was affected and no, I do not have something to hide or worry about. It conjured up all sorts of fears and apprehension and I thought someone had wrongly reported her.
Anyway, just my 2 cents worth.
