AsdaMobile Abroad: text vs email
In europe, Asda texts to uk cost 11p, or mobile internet costs £4 per megabyte (or 3.9p per kilobyte).
Has anyone tested how much data is used when sending an email and is it worth using email over texts for communicating back to blighty?
I would certainly imagine for a long communique (e.g. equiv of 4 or more texts) that email is cheaper, but wanting to guage opinion.
Cheers
Alex

Plain text emails are tiny, just checked one of mine. 749 characters (inc spaces) Thunderbird works out to 4kb... not much more than the cost of one text!0

4kb block size I guess, so the amount of chars in an email is dwarfed by the min size it will probably transmit. Though I am wondering if there is any data associated with communicating to pop server before data transmission... over and above the actual data of the email0

I tested this the other day, I copied a 20,000 word block of text (varying word lengths with multiple paragraphs and headings) into an email and sent it to my other email account, the size of it was 279KB,
cirtainly a basic 180 email would be much less if you were comparing email and SMS like for like.
but you would have to pay to recieve email abroad which you wouldnt have to for a text msg.0
