TomTom sat nav in spain

Hi, I have a tomtom one satnav I want to use in spain in may, Ive been onto the website and to update to the spain map its £29.95 and for western europe inc uk its £39.95.

My questions are a) Can I buy the maps legally anywhere else and b) which map would you get?

Btw my tomtom is now 2 years old and doesnt have a memory card slot.

And the Boulevard’s white with clover,

Maps are available elsewhere but are often dodgy and may not work ........... BE WARNED !! You cannot "borrow" someone elses maps, they are linked to one device.

The new full WE map may not fit in one on your device as it now needs moe than 2GB space so is split into 4 regions, you dowload it all and keep on your computer but only have the bit you need on the device. What model / internal memory do you have ?
  • Hi, my device has a 1gb memory, I have obviously got the cigarette lighter and usb connections.

I am thinking that the WE map is the best as it would update the UK map I have as well.

It looks like I will have to spend £40, just wondering how much more for a new one with WE maps included?

A TT EU starts at around £100 but these are not as flexible as the older models in regard to third party supplied speed cams and POI's. It looks like the maps are suitable for your device but it would be worth checking that all the countries you wish to visit are on one zone or you will need to take a laptop with you.

Yes, it seems that way. Just checked on the website and it looks like spain and the uk are in the same zone.

Just a quick update to say I still havent updated the maps, another idea I have had is to buy a new satnav with europe maps (which gives me the piece of mind of a warranty) and then offloading the old satnav on ebay. Ive looked and I should get around £40 for it, so does anyone have any recommendations on a good "cheap" satnav with western europe maps (which are up to date)?

As you already have a TomTom, maybe it would be better to stick with them when choosing a new unit. TT, Garmin and Navman all offer new map guarantees, so if the new unit you buy has been sat around in a shop/warehouse for a while, you can update the maps to the latest version, for free, usually within a month of activation of the unit.
