Border terrier puppy care

My first post so please be gentle....!!
We are due to pick up our little border terrier puppy next week, she will be 9 weeks old. I've got the first 5 days at home with her, however, I work school hours so my mum is going to have her at her house during the day.
My mum has a healthy sociable dog too - is it ok to for our puppy to come into contact with my mum's dog despite not finishing her course of injections? My mum's dog has been vaccinated.
I will be using a crate for her comfort & to use as a training aid.
All help greatly appreciated, I've raised twin girls but never a puppy before!
Thank you.

  • Hello

I have a border terrier - they are the best dogs ever (maybe I'm biased though :D)

As long as the other dog is fully vaccinated then it will be fine for your puppy to come into contact with them. You can't take them out for walks or anything until they've had all their own jabs just incase any un-vaccinated dogs have been there.

    Good luck!

Hello, Don't forget to post a picture on here:)
  • Hello,
my Border Terrier experience is limited to my sister-in-laws BT although I have bred and shown shelties for 20 years and also have a 1yr old Golden Retriever.

Your pup will be fine with your mum's dog. I have introduced many baby pups to my dog family over the years without any problems. It will be lovely for her to have doggy company which is what she has been used to.

Have a great time with her x

Oh you are VERY lucky. All puppies are fun but a Border puppy is EXTRA fun. My Border is 2 now and still a total baby!

How lovely that you've arranged for her to go stay with your mum in the day rather than confining her to a cage. You sound great and your Border will be a lovely, well socialised dog - Have fun!
  • Thank you very much for all your lovely replies - you have all certainly put my mind at rest.
I'm taking my girls to visit the puppy tomorrow before we pick her up the week after. We've decided to call her Belle, can't believe how excited we are but know it will be hard work. I will post some pic's when she arrives.
    Thanks again.

  • Update.........!!!
We decided to get our little puppy, Belle, on Sunday as all her other siblings had gone to their new homes too.
She has settled in better than I ever expected. The first night was upsetting for her but this was totally understandable.
However, on Mon & Tue night she has settled in her crate downstairs at about 10pm, I let her out for the toilet, at her request (!!!) at about midnight then she's slept through until 7.30am. I'm sure this is just a total fluke tho!
My mum has her during the day while I'm at work and so far so good :).
We took her for her first set of jabs on Sun afternoon which I think was really cruel on her first day but It didnt seem to phase her.
Really want to post a pic but not sure how to.
Anyway fingers crossed that she continues doing well.
    Thanks for all your advice.
