Advice Please!

Hello,

Firstly I'm new to posting on here so hello! Secondly what I'm going to ask is probably stupid but here goes...

I'm about to come to the end of my first ever mobile phone contract (I'm with o2), so have never done upgrading or switching before. When the contract is up I want to switch to Tesco. What I'm a bit confused about is the timings. I want to take my number with me to Tesco so know that I need to get a PAC code, but when do I do this? Do I wait for my contract to finish before getting this? But if I do there will be a delay between contracts and so will be without a phone. Or can I ask for it before my contract is up?

Also, once the contract is up is it then a rolling contract until I cancel, if so do I need to give notice?

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

All you need to do is, 30 days before the end of your contact ask them for your pac code (you need to give 30 days notice).

Wait, say 20 days. Call Tesco and arrange your new acc and give them the pac. You'll get a new phone and sim. The sim will have a temporary number to use until your O2 number goes over, but the O2 acc will still be live until the port. On the day the give you the O2 sim will stop, the Tesco sim will update with the new number and that's it job done.

O2 will send you a final bill after which you can cancel the DD (if thats how your paying). . .

Hi, at the end of your contract it just carries on as a rolling monthly contract unless you give then 1 months notice. If you want to keep your number request a PAC anytime in the last month of your contract or once you are in the rolling monthly contract. Give the PAC to your new network and they should transfer your number within 2 days. Using the PAC terminates your old contract, you do not give them 30 days notice. You cannot switch/request a PAC after you have cancelled your old contract. Once you have requested the PAC you have 30 days to use it before it expires. If you dont use the PAC the contract just carries on as a rolling monthly contract until you cancel .When the number ports you will lose use of the phone for an hour or so until the new provider takes over, sometimes it has been even less.
  • Thanks very much for the replies, very useful :)
