Sadly it is events like this that will make most clampers out there stand up and say "but we're good clampers, they were cowboys, we are legitimate". Sadly the only distinction here is that a rigged meter was used, both still effectively blackmail victims by immobilising their property.0

Exactly my feelings in my post before: They blackmail people and deprive them of their freedom. Both is clearly illegal, so why is it allowed???0 -
Agree with the sentiment but the ARA ceased to exist on 1st April 2008.
However that doesn't preclude W Mids Police launching their own recovery action under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Hopefully then the courts will see fit to deprive him of HIS vehicle and see how he likes it !!
Did it! Oh well lets hope WMP go after him under the proceeds of crime. Don't see why he should keep everything if he earned it illegally!0 -
So he will be out this time next year probably.
Then we can look forward to a new ethical PPC. After all as Luckylucky said they are VAT registered, so they must be legit!!:o

Car clamping, legal or not, should just plainly not be allowed. By clamping a car they are manipulating other peoples property and I can imagine that damage can easily be caused. Not just that, unless you pay you don't get it back and that in my mind is just plain blackmail.
I used the gist of this argument in my letter to my MP regarding the Freedom Bill and abolition of car clamping. Once again, I would urge you all to lobby your own MP regarding this. Enclosing a copy of this report may help to get your feelings across.
