Thinking of moving to BT......what if its worse than my current provider???

Hi

I am getting increasingly fed up with my Non-LLU Sky Broadband, its great in the daytime (5mb) but on an evening slows to well below 0.5mb

I dont pay for my BB as I work for Sky so have been reluctant to start paying for it. i am on the westwood exchange in Warrington and There is absolutely NO LLU options, only connect type packages like im on already

If i was to go to BT then surely they cant be slower than what im already getting but what if hey are......is there any way of cancelling inside the first few weeks without penalty etc??

Ant suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Nick

you'll probably find that ANY IPStream product in your exchange will be the same - because it's all supplied through the same equipment and backhaul !!!

Sounds like you're stuck until some nice LLU ISP comes to your rescue and unbundles the exchange....check samknows.com regularly for your exchange, as most ISPs are very bad at advance notification of unbundling exchanges, and you only find out it's happened after the event :(

Gunjack - I have the same experience with AOL i.e. 5mb during day 0.5 evenings and on non LLU exchange.

Are you saying that if I changed to BE or Idnet I would be no better off? I imagined that the fault laid with AOL throttling my speed and not with the exchange.

    Can you please clarify.
    Thank you.

BTw backhaul is usually fine. The problem is with how much of it the ISP has bought. All BTw based ISPs are most certainly NOT the same.

The thing with any ISP but especially those reselling BTw products is you can't get cheap + high download allowance + high speeds. You can only get cheap if you are prepared to put up with poor speeds or low download caps.

Have to agree that some are better than others, however ALL IPStream are subjected to DLM and traffic shaping over the BT network. Add to that the (probably) creaking overworked BT DSLAMs/MSANs on the non-LLU exchanges (as all data traffic is through the same kit) and if I had the choice of even a single LLU ISP in an exchange I'd go with them over IPStream.....on second thoughts, if it was Orange I may have to think veeery carefully ;)

I am on the same exchange as you living in westbrook.
I have been in this position for ages and been looking for viable alternative and im still looking.

C&W was supposed to unbundle in May11 was I signed up with THUS(Demon) to be an exisiting customer to take advantage of this the day it went live.
I have been on the phone to them this week complaining about my speed dropping below 2mg and I cant even watch bbci player anymore, to be told that the unbundle plan for May has now been scrapped. I just wish some supplier would unbundle this exchange as im sure all 3000 residential users would sign up with them as the BT adsl service is shocking from this exchange.

Until TalkTalk LLU came along at my exchange, i was with a small ISP called Goscomb Technologies on their ip-stream based service. Reasonably priced for a premium ISP; i was paying £26(+vat) for a 8128/832 kbps connection with 60gb data and they gave me top speeds 24/7. Their prices start from £12+ per month for 10gb data.
