If it's any consolation, my credit rate was damaged a few years back. Rbs allowed me to open a current a/c about a year after I proved I could in fact manage my money, although I didn't get a 'proper' visa debit card until about 3 years after joining and it was sent automatically as I never asked for it as I thought I had to wait 6 years.
I have got a capitalone card that I use for credit rating building too and that's it.

The cashminder visa debit card is still recognised a visa electron card so can not be used on some train websites.
