Unless you've asked for an international block it should just work.0

hi,
thanks for a quick response.
I just get a 'not sent' message and saved to outbox.

Might be worth a call to CS then. Ask if they put an 'international block' on new account as standard and if they do ask if they can take it off.
(I'm guessing that you can send text's within the UK alright?).0 -
Ok jon01 thanks for that.
just in case there is a representative here the accont is with orange.
I have phoned CS from my mobile they say I have insufficient credit. I have £10.
I have tried opening an online account with them and 'there is a problem' despite resetting.
I have sent them an email form their site and no response as yet.
I suppose I need to wait for 6pm for a free landline call.

They get 1000's of emails a day from the site. They're always days behind answering them.
I didn't know there was a minimum credit needed to text internationally from a payg acc?0 -
Hi polka purpura
As Jon 01 has suggested, international calls may be barred from your phone, although this is not something that is done by default on new accounts. If you are still unable to make international calls or texts, I'd be happy to look into this for you.

Orange CR,
Thanks for your response.
First things first.
I can phone your customer services number from my mobile but as soon as I am transferred to another service I apparently have insignificant credit.
A balance enquiry says I have "1 10th" this has been the same since I first topped up so i guess this cryptic way of reading the balance means I have £10?
edit: jon01 yes I can make uk calls and texts and the balance enquiry has given the same response each time I've checked. I've made only one top up when I bought the phone xmas eve.

Try the Orange Helpers on Twitter (if you've an acc) they can access your acc and see where the problem is (or email them).
Something a little odd going on somewhere ??0 -
Try using https://www.fishtext.com for sending international texts from your phone it will be a lot cheaper

if you want to make cheap international calls you should do what my brother did and sign up to desi mobi. I'm only a newbie so i can't post the link, but its www. desimobi. co.uk you get the idea! though he called them on 0203 023 5922 instead. they provide flat rate calling to up to 48 countries, so depending on where you want to call that may be cheapest. he uses it to call pakistan, sri lanka and occasionally bangladesh (plus obviously the uk as well)
they've got a 3 months half price deal on at the moment, but i'm not sure if its in store or just on the web0
