Sending non-wiped phone to Envirofone
I want to recycle a few old handsets with Envirofone to raise money for a new one. I have got the envelope etc but I have just realised that I can't find the charger for one of the phones, so I can't wipe it. Would this be a problem? It will have my contacts, messages and photos on it, but nothing risky in terms of identity I don't think.
What should I do?

If they're to be sold on, they refurb them, so I assume that would include wiping the data.
It depends on how comfortable you are with them having access to the info really.0 -
Again it depends on how you feel about anyone else having these pictures. Technically, the phone recycling companies should format the phones but an old friend of mine once recycled her phone and about 4 months later received a call from a guy in Africa saying that he had just bought her phone and found her details saved in it!
Like the OP, she had nothing on there other than a few friends mobiles and some pictures of friends but a worrying thought nonetheless!0 -
Well there are two options from what I can see.
Either get to a mobile phone market stand and buy a new charger/visit Argos and get one of those all-in-one chargers (may even work for your new phone as a fall back), you could always send this off with the handset as some companies will give you more back if you send back a charger too- though unsure if it has to be the original charger.
Or call up Envirophone and ask what they would be able to do about the data- see if it gets wiped, see if you can get any paperwork to confirm this. Think about any data that would be on there, if you have anything personal like bank details, change them, if you have any concerns over contact details, think about if its really OK for you to send back the handset, if anyone is of nervous disposition and you worry about them being called up by a stranger. Remember numbers can be barred but some people will become overly affected by such things. Its your call.0 -
Check that you aren't able to charge the battery in a different phone. I've done that before with Nokias even though it wasn't the exact same model battery.0
