  • How spooky, only tonight whilst putting my DD's to bed, my wedding ring flew off my finger and at the moment is lost somewhere on their bedroom floor. I've nearly lost 2stone and only noticed yesterday that my rings felt lose.

I'm going on holiday in 2 weeks so want to get this sorted before I go (and also find my ring) so will maybe try ebay. I too cannot afford the cost of re-sizing, last time I had this done (again after weight loss ) was nearly 3 years ago and it cost £75 at Ernest Jones.

Mine has never been rezied and sat nicely on my finger with the gold "clasp" (above) - and you would of never have known by looking at it. It hasnt been scratched at all (maybe im lucky? is the jeweller trustworthy? maybe they said it to get you to part with £200?)

We used these when a relative lost a lot of weight and they've never scratched either. As it was only temporary (weight loss due to upsetting event in life meaning she stopped eating) we got these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270666366903#ht_836wt_1139 from ebay for her so they weren't too expensive and could be adjusted and removed as she got back to her usual weight :)

A friend had the same problem. She wrapped a length of cotton round and round the back of the ring - enough to make it slightly smaller and didn't scratch. HTH

i was under the impression you could get soft plastic grips to go on rings to make them fit properly when a little bit to big, cant seem to find a link to what im imagining, but its soft plastic that kinda like a tic tac size with a hollow in the middle and a slot so that it fits onto the ring, so that with the pastic and your finger the ring that was a bit big now fits.

sorry for being so vague :rotfl:

You're quite right. I went into a pretty high end jeweller looking for those - and was very surprised when they sent me to Claire's Accessories instead! They're called ring snuggies.

Could you buy a smaller ring and wear it above the other two? My wedding and engagement rings differ by two sizes - I just wear the engagement ring on the bottom and the wedding ring (which is the smaller of the two) keeps it in place.

edit: doh - didn't see the age of the original post, sorry!

Might want to delete your quote Slinky, you're just doing the advertising for them now. :)

You can get these plastic things that go on the underneath of the ring to make them fit. Might be a temporary solution until they hopefully fit again. x

  • Did you just ask for re-sizing? If the rings are gold and they assumed you meant sizing up, this could be a realistic figure. If you do get them sized down (I trained as a jeweller and the cost was a mere fraction of what you have been quoted) don't forget to ask for the scrap back. This way if you want them sized up you can include the scrap and they should discount the cost, or you could sell the scrap metal.
