Rings too big... ideas please?

Hi all, i am finding my engagement ring and a ring the children bought for me are now far too big for me.
I know i can get them re-sized but a few things are putting me off doing so. Firstly i am on meds that have knocked my appetite so i have lost 2 stone recently but hope to put some of it back on once meds stop.. so dont really want to get them re-sized.
Secondly.. if i were to re-size them the jeweler (i have shopped around) is asking over £200 to do so, we simply dont have the money just now to spend so much.
SO.. can anyone recommend anyways i can temporarily make them fit? I have tried sugrical tape wrapped around the back of the ring but i need to replace it twice a day. I have heard of metal ring adjusters but the jeweller put me off them as she said they can scratch the gold badly.
TIA folks!

Can you wear them on a chain round your neck temporarily? Then when your weight stabilises you can see if they still need resizing.0

Mine has never been rezied and sat nicely on my finger with the gold "clasp" (above) - and you would of never have known by looking at it. It hasnt been scratched at all (maybe im lucky? is the jeweller trustworthy? maybe they said it to get you to part with £200?)0 -
Agreed, I would wait until you are the size you're going "to be" before you resize them as you might need them doing again.
You can get little plastic things that sit on the bottom of them to resize them a little:

As someoe who lost their wedding rings because of this I urge you to put them on a chain or not wear them till you have something sorted.0

Thanks to all of you.
I could wear them on a chain.. but i dont own one lol... nice excuse for my oh to buy me a wonderful chain for valentines maybe
I am going into town later so will pop into H Samuels and ask them about the ring sizers! Thanks a lot0 -
H. Samuel Charge £29.99 to make a ring smaller - we had my husband's ring made smaller after he lost 2 stone and it kept falling off. They don't cut out the gold, they spread it into the rest of the band. Got it back within 2 weeks - perfect0

I wear my grandmother's engagement ring on my right hand and it was too big. I got it resized to make it smaller at a jeweller in Hatton Garden and it only cost £20. £200 seems an awfully lot. But I would wait until you are the right size - as now mine is too small as I've puffed up a bit since being pregnant so can't wear it0

I found the same problem, having been married for just over a year. I'd had my baby and lost the baby weight, but was worried about my weight settling to a decent level. In the end my wedding ring flew off whilst i was sat in my car on a cold winter's day. Luckily as it was a contained space, the ring was found, but this panicked me enough to get it sorted. The cost of resizing put me off too, but we used H Samuels in the end. I think one ring was £45 and the other was slightly less. The manager of Samuels suggested getting whichever ring i wear on the outside done first, then that will keep the other ring on until i could afford to get that done. I temporarily used the plastic ring snugs on my engagement ring, which i borrowed from a friend, but she'd bought them from Claire's accessories. I must say they are not comfortable. The plastic can be irritating and get in the way especially if you grip with that hand, i.e. being left handed or riding a bike. Apparently Samuels do the metal adjusters, but i was told these are temporary and last a few months at most.
Good luck, but honestly, i would rather wear my rings on my necklace for a few days while i get things sorted than loose them. I lost mine for literally seconds and was panicking like mad!0 -

It's a VERY long time since I had mine resized, but I remember the wedding ring could be made 'fatter' or 'thinner' without problems (absolutely plain gold band), but engagement ring was potentially more problematic as there is a limit to how much it can be stretched or compressed without affecting the setting.
And it's definitely worth keeping the lower ring slightly larger than the top one: when I was pregnant I could keep my wedding ring on but the engagement ring was a bit tight.
Mine are still a bit too tight after I broke my shoulder, I took the wedding and engagement rings off quick in case my hand swelled up (it did, regularly! until I'd had my new half shoulder), and took everything else off before going into hospital because LAST time I was in DH 'lost' my favourite gold chain. It took years before I found anything I liked enough to let him buy. I've got a ring on my right hand now, and I may try the wedding ring again soon, but they seem to want necklaces off before doing x-rays, so not worth putting a chain on just yet.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
i was under the impression you could get soft plastic grips to go on rings to make them fit properly when a little bit to big, cant seem to find a link to what im imagining, but its soft plastic that kinda like a tic tac size with a hollow in the middle and a slot so that it fits onto the ring, so that with the pastic and your finger the ring that was a bit big now fits.
sorry for being so vague :rotfl:0
