Switching from 3 contract to 3 PAYG
I experienced 3's legendary customer service last month when I tried to request a PAC code - After a good 30 minutes of trying to pursuade me that they could offer a better deal than PAYG on giffgaff (even after admitting they hadn't heard of giffgaff), they eventually dropped the bombshell that I'd got my maths wrong and my contract wasn't up til mid march.
<Insert your choice of expletive here>
Anyway, in the meantime I ordered and activated a giffgaff sim and I actually quite like the new number I've been allocated. So I'm now thinking I'd like to use that one and forget about porting the 3 number.
I've also started doing a bit of comping and I'm toying with the idea of keeping the 3 number to give out for that purpose as a kind of competition hotline phone
I believe some of the serious compers do this.
Anyway, to get to the point, I just wondered whether anyone had experience of switching from contract to PAYG with 3 and whether it's an easier transition than trying to port the number elsewhere, or am I likely to face the same frustrating attempts to keep me on contract as I did before?
If it's going to be more of what I've already encountered I'm going to start my mental preparations now...
Ooooooossaaaaah...

I'm going to assume from the deafening silence that convincing them to let me go onto PAYG will be just as much hard work as trying to get a PAC :rotfl:"Come on, Steve. We've got a diem to carpe!"0

I managed to get onto PAYG. Took a 20 minute conversation with an Indian lady doing her best to bribe me with some fairly good offers but in the end she relented. I got a letter and an email a couple of weeks later welcoming me to PAYG.0

Thanks
Now I can speak to 3 CS emboldened by the knowledge that at least one person before me has emerged from negotiations successful!"Come on, Steve. We've got a diem to carpe!"0
