Wildfire + WiFi

I've had my new Wildfire for 24 hours now and it seems OK but I have a question I don't seem to be able to find the answer for in the manual.

When I got home last night, I turned on the WiFi and it immediately saw my Wireless router. I put in the password and the phone connected. All good there, however, when I then try to go onto the internet using the phone, I get a pop up which says that to do so, I will have to switch off the WiFi first.

How can I get it so that the internet will work on the WiFi? It must be a setting somewhere I should think.
