Sneaky pricing at supermarkets!

  • I always find it annoying that stuff like cotton wool and cotton buds are always cheaper in the baby isle (goes for tesco and boots)

Also for certain items like for example tortilla wraps will be more cheaper in the world foods section then the bakery isle!!

I discovered this many years ago when I used to buy a large washing powder & hump it all the way home on the bus thinking I was saving a small fortune :o So now I always check the weight & the price as frequently 2 small one's is cheaper than a large on & there's more in it.

    Asda yesterday.

    Fairy dishwasher tablets. 42 pack = £6. Family pack of 90 = £20.42.

So 2 x 42 packs = £12 for 84 tablets, that means if you buy the family pack you are paying an extra £8.42 for just 6 extra tablets! :rotfl::eek:

That equates to 14.28p each or 22p each in the larger pack - both are extortionate.

Makro have 150 Fairy tablets at £17.99 + VAT and they are on BOGOF - equivalent to 7.2p each.

And this is why we should all carry a small pocket calculator if our mental arithmetic is unreliable...last time I looked a Tesco Value one was 69p. Well worth the outlay!

i always tell hillmans about offers when they're in shopping. they tend not to believe me and can often take some convincing that if they buy the product in their hand, they'll spend more than the one i'm pointing out.

like with the cans of coke - we (asda) sell the 15 packs of coke for £4 but recently had the 8 pack for £2.

most people were happy that i pointed out they can get one more can for free, but the occasional scrote would think i'm trying to rip them off. one of them get reeeeaaaaally angry with me when pointing this out and shouted "YEA BUT YOU ONLY GET 8 IN THEM AND 15 IN THEM, DICK 'ED". he was showing off in front of his scrote mates and girlfriend, but fell flat on his arse when it was revealed to him by me and his friend that 8 x 2 = 16, which is one more than 15.

humble pie was eaten and an apology was forthcoming. billy big spuds here walks off with a smile on my boat.

also, over christmas, an old bid put a complaint in about me, saying i was again trying to rip her off.

we had the fairy dishwasher tablets at £20 or £10 with the voucher from the booklets they were giving out.

i can't remember how many they had in them, but we had another offer on the fairy tablets (the exact same tablets, larger quantity) which worked out cheaper than the £10 (i think it was £8 for 20 more tablets).

i tried explaining this to her, but she was adamant that the bag for £10 was better value because they are half price. she went to customer service after she'd bought the £10 bag, i was summoned over and she again got the same from the girl on the desk. a complaint was lodged but my manager didn't action it.

Tesco has a pack of 6 cream eggs 'half price' at £1.50 or their bargain offer at the check outs of 2 packs of 12 for the 'special purchase' price of £10

All you ahve to do is check the price, its not sneaky pricing by anyone, the price per 1kg or grams or litre is shown for us to compare but its down to us as to whether we use the information provided

Of course it's sneaky pricing! I'm shocked you could come to any other conclusion unless you work in the industry. The fact is the general expectation is that if you buy 'in bulk' you get a cheaper per unit price. The supermarkets clearly play on this perception. What isn't sneaky about that?

It is also the general expectation that if you pay more for something it is better quality but as most people on here would openly say it makes no odds to the quality what you paid for it. People should not expect things to happen without checking.
