My name is angela and I am a seed-o-holic

It is official, I am a seed-o-holic.

I decided to tidy up my various boxes of seed packets yesterday and I clearly think I have a 24 acre farm, rather than the 2 x 6m beds and small allotment plot I have! :o

I ended up putting them in three of this type of storage because the collection had outgrown the original storage boxes, tins, large A4 padded envelope, etc.

It is ridiculous as I know they won't be viable forever, but I just can't resist walking past those racks of seed packets.....

Are other people like me??? Is there any hope for me??? Will it bring shame on my family???
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

I have to confess I have 46 packets of veg seeds and that does not include the flowers :o

All this I am expecting to fit into a medium sized garden and a lot of window ledges :rotfl:

  • In the Autumn one of my local shops was selling seeds for 10p a packet so I went and bought 78 packets!! Some had previously been marked at £ 2- 3 a packet and I couldn't resist - just as well that I plan on selling some of my excess plants this year at the local car boot sales to make a bit of extra cash.

I also picked up a load of seed packets cheap at the end of the season!

Selling the plants at boot sales is a great idea, I used to do this in London and made a lot of money - not sure it would be as successful where I live now, but it could be worth a try.

my mother in law is a merchandiser for a couple of the big seed companies, and at the end of the season ends up with several bin liners full of seeds which she is aloud to keep what she wishes before giving them back to the company, so as you can guess I have so many seeds :) all free :)
  • I am in the process of putting together a spreadsheet to keep track of what I have (keep finding packets of the same seeds).

Is there any hope for me?

As some greenfingered regulars know I bought a new garden (and house) last summer. Befor ethat we've been living with family and renting. So really I shouldn't have arrived with enough to start digging out nursery borders.....its only when you start planting things you realise how you've been hoarding them. I have to go back to my mothers' garden soon to dig out some stuff that was lodging in her garden!

The thing with seeds though...is remembering to sow them....I have a stash that should have gone in last week...I'm hoping the seeds won't notice its february not January by the time they go in.

Meanwhile I'm waiting for the heavy machinery to leave so I can put in the bargain bag of lilly of the valley I got recently........

Just don't go there ! I am really worried I'm not going yo be able to stop. Most of the packs I have got this year, I can save seed from so in theory it is an investment, or so I tell myself.

I only started growing a few bits last year(while trying to maintain what is in the garden) however I must admit for a novice gardener I reckon I must have about 40 packets of seeds...... Im obviously more optimistic for this year LOL
