Downgrading contract on Vodafone?
Has anyone done this before?
I pay £30 a month for 3000 texts, 300 minutes and unlimited internet. I never use all my minutes or texts so thought I would try and lower it.
Apparently they don't lower contracts but my friends have told me they've had theirs lowered.

Hi emmarox05,
This all depends on what type of plan you are on. The new ones that we do start with YPL and cannot be lowered. This is simply because we released these Your Plan tariffs to be a lot better value and to have much more inclusive.
On some of our older plans you could reduce them down after being on them for at least 9 months. After the 9 months you could then drop down to a lower one each month, so dropping down £5 a month.
If you would like us to take a look to see which plan you are on, you can email us here. Make sure you put WRT135 in the subject and a link to this thread. This will ensure that it reaches our team.
You can also check your plan details by logging into My Account here.
Kind Regards,
Heidi

I've just reduced mine! The first call to customer service was to an indian call centre not very helpful who told me I was unable to reduce my plan for the duration of my contract but that I could upgrade. I debated and got nowhere.
I decided to search Google and found the below information on Vodafone.com. I rang Customer Service back and got my plan reduced without incurring any costs!!!
I don't think legally they can tell you a price plan is "fixed" but that you can upgrade but not downgrade, I challenged this and it appeared to have worked!
"Changing Rate Plans is Easy
If you want to change to anyone of our great new rate plans, you can. With Vodafone, you have the flexibility to change to our newest plans, to ensure you are getting the great value we have on offer.
You can switch to a rate plan of equal or higher minimum monthly spend without having to extend your existing contract, and without any Plan Change Fees being charged. However, if you want to change to a rate plan with a lower minimum monthly spend and the same contract length, you will incur Plan Change Fees1.
It's always worthwhile to check your current usage and spend on My Vodafone to review if plan changes are best for you. To find out the most suitable plan for your mobile usage give us a call and one of our experienced advisors will be happy to talk you through it. Once we've confirmed your rate plan change, you'll be on your selected new rate plan at the start of your next monthly billing period.
Simply call customer care.
If a customer moves to a plan with a lower minimum monthly spend with the same contract length, a Plan Change Fee multiplied by the number of months remaining on contract may be payable.0 -

Reading between the lines...you took out a £40 p/m contract and probably got a pretty decent phone FOC. thrown in. You possibly even only took the contract to get that particular phone "thrown in" (iPhone per-chance?)
Now you feel that you're being cheated by Vodafone, because you're not using all of the minutes that you agreed to buy over a set term...and you want Vodafone to reduce your commitment?
Sorry if this doesn't sound very sympathetic, but you really need to read through the hundreds/thousands of threads on these boards, started by people trying to renege on a deal that they were only too happy to enter into - so they could get their shiny new toy.
I'm not a network lover - I think they are a necessary evil - but fair's fair....if they've done nothing wrong.....0 -

Basically what this guy has said. Well put!I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned this. You are quoting from the Vodafone Australia website! (Vodafone.com.au) .
Did you really get Vodafone UK to change your tariff based on something on an Australian site. Or are you 'mistaken'?0
