I hadn't realised you are a teacher MG. I wonder what draws so many teachers to this forum? Planning for the future is scary stuff isn't it. I am just dipping my toe at the moment but have been really inspired by the discussion on Mr E's thread. Also wanted to get started whilst still in early 30's! I would love to at least be working very part time by the time I am 55. Surely early mortgage freedom will help us on our way. Financial independence seems a hot topic of discussion on lots of diaries at the moment.
Not many get ups now. Am sure you know the exact numberApr 2024 - part 1 - £30,337 part 2 - £24,811 Total - £55,148 43 months to go!0 -

Well apparently I slept through a huge thunderstorm last night. I remember waking up to a slight rumble and sleepily thinking to myself that it was a half-hearted attempt at a storm but apparently it was torrential and I was completely oblivious. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Anyway, my blissful nights sleep has set me up for what turned out to be a very productive, MSE day. I batch cooked a load of cumin, carrot and bean burgers and made a huge veggie chilli (8 portions worth) so that should save me cooking a few meals this month. I also did the usual household jobs and used soapnuts in my laundry (thanks for the reminder Surfchik!), I ran out of bathroom cleaner halfway through cleaning the bathroom so made up some of my own using white vinegar and it cleaned everything perfectly so I'm considering making up a bottle full and using that for a while. I also pottered around in the garden for a bit and repotted at least a dozen lettuces, built some supports for the mangetout and planted it out and sowed some coriander seed. I'm feeling quite organized in the garden this year - I hope it continues!
Time to put my feet up and chill for a bit.
Have a lovely evening.

Welcome back BW. Yes it was so productive that I was tucked up in bed by 10pm as I was exhausted. The burgers are Jack Monroe's famous 9p burgers, if you google carrot and bean burgers you should easily be able to find the recipe. They are very tasty and so simple to make.
Well this morning I decided to finish off the polytunnel. I'd bought 10m of netting so my first job was to cut it to size which was a feat in itself. Then I had to get it over the frame and tuck it in to make it look tidy. I got there in the end after quite a bit of grumping along the way...why is it that the ones you see on the internet always look so neat and tidy with everything fitting so well? Anyway, I have enough tubing and netting left to make a small tunnel to go over the strawberry patch, so for £80 I've got myself a couple of decent sized tunnels to stop the beasties and birds getting at my veggies, which is much less than it would have cost me to get ready made ones. I haven't managed to get anything planted out yet as it's just started to rain so I'm sat having a cuppa and stuffing myself with crisps and chocolate whilst I psyche myself up to do the ironing!
I forgot to say that I made an op on the mortgage yesterday after doing the usual payday money shuffle. So that's another £700 off the mortgage bringing my daily interest to just over £3 per day. According to my spreadsheet I'm still on track for being MF in August 2018 if I can keep the op's the same but I'd like to reduce it to less than that so I need to keep focused.
Off to play with my spreadsheet (and then to do the ironing!).

I don't envy you the ironing MG. I bit the bullet and did my ironing mountain first thing this morning so that it was out the way. It had all the holiday clothes in so was much larger than usual... but at least it's now done :j
Well done on the garden stuff and the OP. :T done on the daily interest reduction too. You have also reminded me that I need to review mine for last month0 -
Just popping by to say hello and wish you a lovely weekend Hope you have had a good week hun0

Hi MG
not posted on your diary before but see you are a fellow teacher :hello:
I agree 68 is ridiculous to expect teachers to be in the classroom until. If you have one of those cosy office type roles ( ahem, no names mentioned) fair enough but if you actually have to teach all day no chance. I imagine it is why there is a disproportionate number of teachers on here. FI will allow people to explore other options for earning money other than teaching. Government meddling can't be helping people choose to stay in the profession either.
Good luck with the mortgage, seems to be going well
